I have a 05 Canyon ext cab Z71 I5 5speed w/17000 on it. I have been noticing three things that make me nuts. After driving for a while then parking (running to the store) when I start the truck up to leave the engine likes to occasionally almost die out. It will idle then drop 500rpm three times or so before resting at proper idle. I have almost stalled it as the engine feels like it's not ready to go yet. I have also been noticing a creaking sound coming from the chassis when I am on/off the power at parking lot speeds. Was told this could be a cab bushing issue. Also while at parking lot speed/ maneuvering around sometimes the steering feels like there is a knock as I am turning. Doesn't happen that often, but with this many miles it shouldn't happen at all. Otherwise I have no complaints about the truck. Anyone else having these issues? Have any advice?

I purchased a 2005 GMC Canyon Extended Cab with a 4 cylinder engine and Z-85 Suspension in April, 2005. It was downhill after that. After over 10 visits to 2 different dealerships, I had a brake line leak repaired, 3 each speakers replaced, brake noises left unrepaired, 1 each back seat replaced, 4 each tires replaced on the front and 2 each front end alignments accomplished within 19,000 miles. I had to complain to to get the speakers replaced, I was told there was no problem with the brakes to begin with, and I still do not know if the front end is repaired. After 28 years as a loyal GM customer, I will not buy another GM product.

I bought a 06 canyon with the 5-cylinder auto (4X4) love it so far there are small things I don't care for like when you hit a large bump the steering shakes, but it's a truck I put hid headlights and a cat back exhuast plus a full intake and it gave me such a power difference at all rpm ranges I've been reading all the other messages about the mechanical problems and my advice is stand up to the dealership when they don't fix something wright a letter to gm the dealers hate that they don't want to look bad if you read up on any car or truck somebody has something bad to say its all your choice and I love my truck.

Hello, my truck is a 2005 GMC Canyon 2.8L 4cyl.

They had to replace valve springs at 30k. Now it will not idle at a steady rpm. They said it's normal.

My truck is a piece of crap. I wish you could sue car manufacturers for selling pieces of crap to people, and the car lots that know they're pieces of crap when they sell them to you.

When they fixed mine, they said gm had sent a bulletin out for this problem. If they know there's a problem, they should recall these rolling pieces of crap and fix them.

My warranty will run out soon, so I'm pretty sure my engine will blow the hell up shortly after.

I can't wait to get this truck traded off. I hate my truck and I wish I could burn it to the ground.

My roommate has a 2006 GM Canyon...SLE..It's been in the shop 3 times already to fix a front end issue. The first time the dealership did squat... so she took it to another dealership who did some investigation and found a small problem... that has been 'fixed' and then fixed again... and soon to be taken in again.

GM put out a recall on this model in November because of a frequent short in the brake lights... how can they notice a brake light problem and not a front end alignment/suspension problem?

Obviously this is not limited to one vehicle. I think that GM needs to step up their customer service... should they desire to lose a few less dollars.

I'm reading all the above reviews and I'm actually laughing out loud. I purchased an 05 Canyon, and now have roughly 27000 miles. I have had more issues with this truck than my 7 other vehicles combined. I have had troubles with the Parking break, oil life system, numerous sensor replacements, rough Idling... with occasional stalling, nonfunctional breaks, shifter boot assembly broke, hood latch would not release, windshield washer fluid motor, windshield washer spray nozzle broke off, and the topper now after continual towing with the truck well under GMs guidelines for payload I am having my clutch replaced because the truck is not designed to tow things on a regular basis... so GM tells me... well what is a truck designed to do??? If I had known that this truck has no real uses as a truck to to its brittle design I would have bought a car. I will not ever purchase another GM product due to the lack of courtesy, and lack of quality that GM has set forth in this pick-up line. I just hope that if you are considering purchasing this truck you really do your research, because if you are looking for a quality truck you may want to look overseas.

American vehicles do have a higher percentage of repair problems compared to... you know, but the intial purchase price is less and you have purchased a rare truck that was problematic. I am sorry this happened to you, but I have had nothing happen to mine with 33,000 miles on it. The luck of the draw maybe.

I purchased a 2006 Canyon Crew Cab with the I5 engine last July and have had nothing, but problems with it since the day I bought it. I have had it in the shop 12 times for numerous repairs with no luck getting them fixed correctly. I have had to have the driver window regulator replaced 3 times and still having issues with it. I have had the speakers replaced 3 times in the driver door and still having problems with them crackling. I was told that it was the type of music that I listen to. Bull!! If the speakers are that sensitive then maybe GMC shouldn't put a stereo in their vehicles. Also had to have a rear seal put in my transmission due to the other leaking after only 19000 miles. Had to have hinges and striker plates replaced for both driver side doors. Had to have my bed re-aligned because it set in to the right side of the truck. Have had my emergency brake cable fixed 2 times and then they decided to insulate it. What??? This is the kicker of the deal. I recently had a rattle and vibration on the passenger side of the truck and they told me that it was my back brakes and that they had to insulate them inside the drum. How can that be possible??? Made no sense to me. I got GM involved in the matter and all that GM did the first time was offer to refer me to another service department. So I consulted an attorney who told me to send a certified letter to GMC and wait for a response. When GM called me back they wanted me to take the vehicle back in for my concerns to be re-addressed and that they had made an appointment for me. Two days before I took the vehicle in for this appointment my truck overheated sitting at a stop light. So when I took the vehicle in for the appointment I asked the service department to also address the matter of the truck overheating. When I picked up truck up 2 days later not one single problem had been addressed and then GM called back to give me an offer on my vehicle of a 50000 mile warranty for drive train only. Now that is only 14000 miles more that the original factory warranty. That just is not an option for me. If GM is going to make these problem vehicles then the least that they can do is warranty these vehicles for as long as you own them, especially if they are not going to replace them. Sounds fair to me.

It's disturbing to read so many comments regarding the GMC Canyon. I purchased a 2005 model last fall with 19k miles (extended cab, 4cyl, off road package). Right off the bat I had to have the inner and outer tie rods replaced. Now at 28k miles it was in the shop for over a week after having had the cylinder heads/valves replaced, seals replaced on the front diff. shaft, as well as the windshield washer nozzles replaced. After reading all the above comments, it's no doubt then that I should purchase an extended warranty. Dare I even think of what could go wrong next?

I am sorry to say that I own a 2006 GMC Canyon Crew Cab Offroad. The cylinder head has been replaced and is now in need of another replacement. The door catch has broken and will go back to the shop tomorrow. The CD player does not work all time. THE TRUCK IS ONLY 10 MONTHS OLD!! I am stuck with it because I owe more than I can sell it for. No more domestic cars for me... I tried and I've gotten burned once too often!!

I have a 05 Canyon with 76 K on it and never had a problem with it. I am happy with my purchase. It is loaded with a 5 Cylinder engine which makes the difference in the world VS. up the 4 cylinder. Good job GM, keep up the good work!

I have a 2004 Canyon Crew Z71 automatic with 93000 k (58000 miles) and it's in the shop as we speak. I've been reading some of the issues that people have had with their truck and no one seems to have had my current problem... As I was driving down the highway, I noticed that it wasn't shifting into overdrive like it's supposed to once I pass approx. 80 km/h. I tried pulling over and shifting into park, turning the truck off and on again, but the problem was still there. Then I decide to try to put it in cruise control and surprise, that no longer works either. I'm almost positive that both these problems are related since they both stopped working the same day. I'm thinking it's probably a speed sensor or something trivial. Has anyone else had this problem?

I replaced my beloved El Camino with a 2005 Canyon ext. cab and 5 cyl. Vortex engine. Completely pleased with minor concerns. The off road differential lock should not be used with ice as noted in the manual. Yes, original tires are not of the best quality, ride hard, but wear well. Two years and 33000 without going into the shop for anything. Mileage is not up to snuff, 17.5 is best on freeway long trips; a bit less around town.

The engine really produces when asked with heavy loads. Cruise control is the only problem so only use it on relatively flat highways. It surges through two and sometimes three levels of acceleration on rolling or hilly country. To go from 1800 rpm to 5400 is a bit exciting to say the least.

Am I pleased? Yes, think GM produced a great mid sized pick up. I think you would find more comments as this rather than the sour grapes from so few.
