I have a 2006 GMC Canyon with 18,000 miles. This truck has been amazing. I think there are many that love this truck, but are usually the ones that don't write about it. Great American truck is all I have to say.
I have a 2006 GMC canyon 50000kms so far no major problems. I had to replace the cheap OEM speakers with better units and install a transmission cooler. I also tow 4000 lbs. (20' enclosed trailer.) on a regular basis and it handles it extremely well. I am very pleased with this truck overall.
Hello. my truck is still a GM piece of rolling crap.
I now have to have the head replaced and valve springs again; yes this is just a wonderful american truck. There is nothing like having to miss work over and over again to get your great american truck worked on.
I have been waiting on my next round of parts for two months now. Has any one had the head actually replaced, and if so did it fix the god forsaken death trap. P.s. great american trucks do not stall out on you in the middle of intersections, only GM pieces of crap do that.
I traded my Canyon a yr ago for a Kia Sorento, thinking I was going to make a mistake, I am glad I did what I did. My KIA sorento has been more reliable then the Canyon. I never had to take my Kia to the dealer, Knock on wood. With the Canyon, I had the vehicle in the shop 14 times in 1 year. I am glad I got a Korean vehicle, the quality build is more solid. The Canyon's interior has a cheap plastic build. Overall, GM needs to refine their vehicles because the used-to-be-cheapo's(Korean imports) caught up and passed them in quality and reliability, etc.
I just bought a 2006 Canyon SLE 18,000 miles IL5 a week ago and is already in the shop. I tried to start it and it would crank, but not start. I thought it was just water getting into something because it started right up an hour after it stopped rained. The shop left it out in the rain and said it didn't happen when they tried so "it was just a fluke". Next day I get off work after a nice rain (its Florida) and guess what no start. Now the shop says they are going to keep it for a week to see if "they can find anything". They have no clue what is wrong with it and they probably think I'm lying. If anyone has a answer to the problem please email me at Joel22190@yahoo.com.
Its not a battery problem, fuel injector, spark plugs, or computer problems. I believe it has something to do with water, but I'm not sure and the shop doesn't either.
My engine on my GMC canyon failed 2 days ago. It only had 21,000 miles on it. They said that the middle piston seized up, and for what reason? I think it is not stable because you have uneven cylinders, there has to be one doing more work then the others. For this reason, I am thinking the one doing the most work will be the first to become defective. Am I right on this? It would be better if it was a inline 6 because all the cylinders will even out. Also, my transmission skips on warm days, they told me the computer needed a download. What is going on here? I still have not receive my vehicle from the shop yet, they told me today it would be another week before I get my canyon back. Gm should be ashamed!
I bought a 2005 Canyon new, and it has been in the shop. I tried to start it and it would crank, but not start. I got the recall on the head and took it in, they said they fixed it, #4 intake was leaking, they said they replaced the head, no charge. It still ran crappy, like it was going to die when I came to a stop. They cleaned the injectors and fuel line. Charged me $287.00.
Today it was raining and it cranked, but would not start, even though I was parked in a parking structure out of the rain. I waited 10 minutes, tried it again and it started. This is about the 5th time it has done that. Each time wait a while and it has started. Have no clue what is wrong with it. I guess if it does it and never starts, then they can fix it. If anyone has a answer to the problem, please email me at antiquesusa@yahoo.com
I bought an 05 Canyon crew cab new and have had no problems with it. Gas mileage could be better, about 18mpg. I wrecked it 2 weeks ago in a snow storm. The last 2 winters I have not even spun or had it slip, especially in 4 wheel high. But I was going down a grade, in 4wh and just lost it, the rear started fishtailing and I went over a large ditch, across a field and into a telephone pole. No injury at all, but also no airbags, (which I thought was weird). I simply put it in 4wd low and drove out. I even drove it for a few days until the garage could get it in. I really like the truck. It has 22,000 miles on it and I think I'll get some better tires for it as I can't figure out why I lost control during the wreck. Any Tire recommendations?
I was thinking about buying either a 2005 -2006 canyon or colorado, I do hear that they don't handle wet conditions or snowy conditions well, however they do run a heck of a lot better with some extra weight over the rear axle (seen as midsize pickups don't have by the much of weight as full sizes do). I have been using shur-trax in my car and it works great, adds about 200 lbs of weight and I can put stuff on top of it, they have a light truck model for about $130. Also I would suggest getting the larger 265 tires that are used in the Z71.
Another wierd thing that I noticed when looking for aftermarket air filters to get better fuel mileage and performance. The 3.5 liter puts more power to the pavement than the newer 3.7 liter, about 10 or so more HP. these numbers are pulled from K&N's site from their dyno runs.
However on a good note GF sister has a 2007 Colorado, no problems yet. I drove it and I love the truck, I can't wait to drive something that isn't almost as old as I am.
I bought a 2005 Canyon (Regular Cab/ 2WD/ 4 cyl.) in July of 2005. I just recently traded it in for a '07 Sierra in November '07. It had 39,000 miles on it when I traded it in. I am somewhat surprised when reading all of these negative comments, I did not have many problems with the truck at all. The drivers side window handle broke at one point and the dealership replaced it no charge, and I had a CD player installed at Best Buy and that started giving me problems a few months before I got traded it in. The reason I traded it in was that it was just too small in the interior and in general, and I wanted a bigger truck. I started having buyers remorse about the Sierra because of the money I am spending on gas, but reading these reviews I'm actually glad I got rid of the Canyon. Plus, the interior was so cheap looking and plasticy, I couldn't stand it. So, my experience with my '05 Canyon was pretty good for the 2 1/2 years I had it, but I am much happier with my Sierra, and I am thinking if I would have kept the Canyon, problems were just around the corner.
Just purchased a 2005 Canyon Z71 four wheel drive with the 5 cylinder engine from a GMC dealer. The same night I got it the engine light is going off & now I notice the thing will not idle. Two days later I go back to the dealer and they are sorry, but the head & valve springs are bad! Now the 50/50 limited warranty applies. I'm done with purchasing trucks from big dealer ships. The corner buy her pay here with a good Toyota will work for me. Way to go GMC building a piece of junk and knowing the parts are bad!
I have 05 Canyon Z71 4x4. You guys should check out coloradofans website; they have the vins affected by head issue and repair codes, and words used to make warranty trip more pleasant.
I bought my 2005 Canyon in 05, fresh off the truck. It worked great till last year, when the fly wheel broke. I have been having issue's with key-less remote; they say it works fine, and now my blow motor for my A/C has gone out, plus my windshield wipers don't work.
I had a Sonoma back in 95, and had trouble with that one. I thought they fixed everything with this model; boy was I wrong, and now I'm stuck for 3 more years.
I have an 06 Colorado for a work truck. I also had the ABS engage when it should not have and resulted in an accident. I read in an earlier comment about this happening to someone else (no comment about an accident??)
Has any one else had this problem???
I've got a 2005 Canyon. It's in the shop right now at 3 years, 48,000 miles because the transmission is shot! I can't believe it. I'm really upset. Clutch might be an issue too. I've still got 2 years to pay on it. I feel like I got scalped.
