I own a charade GTTI, it has a full exhaust system and air filter running 12psi boost, I regularly beat a lot of other 5 figure cars off the line and it sticks with them up to the ton easily. Soon to have a hybrid turbo and downpipe fitted aswell as a fuel cut defender (15psi :-) ) i'l let you know how it goes. (Charade Haters are just Jealous!!)

I agree this little car is a pocket rocket and great value for money and would bury a vtr, but as for the claims of it eating starlet gt turbo is nonsense. It doesn't make any sense as the starlet has around 135 bhp with early mods at 860kg and the charade a 100bhp and 810kg there is no way, stralets also can be tuned easily to 180bhp without even up grading the turbo. I don't like the vts, but they too would probably beat the charade as well. (hence the original pocket rocket)

My mate bought two charade GTti's last year. One had a good body and bad engine. The other had a bad body and good engine. He planned to transfer the good engine into the good body... but couldnt get insurance. He took me out in one of them, it was the one with the bad engine I think. The engine was still amazing even though it had problems. The turbo kicks in at 6000rpm and it will wind all the way too 9000rpm as it has no rev limiter, but you would, but in the red by then of course. I have a Saxo VTR myself and the charade would beat it I'm sure. I won't have the VTR called slow. Its not fast either though.

I owned a charade gtti and it was 131bhp with just an air filter/exhaust.. why buy a ford st170? they cost more and are PROVEN to be less reliable. Ford cannot produce a naturally aspirated production car that exceeds the 100bhp per litre benchmark of a true performance car... and zetec means nothing! just google "how does zetec work" it won't come up with an explanation? It will then suggest you meant "how does vtec work?" (because it actually does something!) vtec can do 100bhp per litre, ztec cannot! if I had a 2.0 litre car with just 170bhp I would be ashamed?

LOL I was just out with my friends Charade gtti, I was in my Escort RS Turbo (standard) and my car was simply quicker. Plus his car had exhaust system and dump valve. 0-60 in 7.9 seconds my ass.. my RS Turbo is said to do it in 8.2 seconds and trust me it blew away the Charade and he was giving it all. nothing wrong with it either.

Also I like how everyone is using the Saxo VTR as the car it beats, and they only have like 90 odd bhp anyway which are heavier, so it's obvious it would beat that.. it's the VTS (120bhp or 135bhp) that would beat the Charade.

All I'm saying is that the stats and what people are saying isn't true, but I cannot knock it.. it's a bloody 1 litre and to get that kind of performance is outstanding. I don't know how they did it.

The most recent car to have an engine close to that with amazing stats is the Mazda RX8, a 1.3 which is also japanese. Japanese cars are reliable and the way forward!.

I also want to say whoever that guy was that said Charades do 150mph... hahahahahahahahaha nah they do 160 mate LOL jokes (obviously)... anyway feel free to knock the RS turbo now I've brought that into the conversation.. It is over rated and the charade is way under rated!!! Charades rule end of!!!

The reason Escort RS Turbo's only do 8.2 to 60 is because 2nd gear ends at like exactly 58 mph... a whole gear change to 3rd takes a lot of time off... if it werE 0-58 instead of 0-60, the RS Turbo would do it in like 1 second.

Anyway - Charade gtti beats TVR Griffiths!!!

I own a japanese import gtxx model charade, the cars only in ireland 2 months imported direct from japan and is seriously mint. Engine is totally standard pushing out 99bhp at the minute and beats toyota glanza turbos which produce 130bhp they weigh more than gt starlets which the charade will not beat. Believe me I no from experience.. But when shes tuned it will most definitely be a diffrent story.. CHARADE GTXX/GTTI PURE SAVAGE!!!

HAHA I love all these comments, I personally own a 1993 Charade GT-ti.

Mine has 150bhp and EASILY beats vtr's and vts'

I have a few friends in the GTtiOC and all have 150bhp+ one guy Ian Davies has approx 220bhp from his 993cc cb80 engine.

The world record holder lives in greece and goes by the name of Akis.

Here is his GT-ti, and your telling me that your VTR's will keep up with that, somehow I think not.

That's a tuned one; of course it'l beat the VTR, but all comparison is void once you bring tuning into the equation. Or if you want to talk about tuning, how about a boosted VTR?
