My Father had a 1990 TP Magna for many years brought when it was 4 years old and it was a great car. It did have some this needed replacing, but this is all wear and tear and he never had it serviced in the whole time. He just bought about 2 bottles of cheap oil over the 6 years he had it because like all Magna's it had a small smoke blow on start up. He paid $17000 for it and it was a gem. Apart from the Modulator, Alternator Brushes, Battery Wiring and random radiator hoses needing replacing over the years. Also I used it as a courier vehicle for three months and it went very well. I have just bought a 1990 model with carby for $50 and it is a great car, heaps of power. With about $500 work it will be registed on going strong.

I currently own a 1988 VL Commodore which is fuel injected. The beast was my first car which I bought for $1350 but have fixed / pimped it out by also putting a sweet $800 sound system in it. Just recently the transmission has gone in it which is a problem in many VL's. It won't reverse anymore and I feel it is therefore not safe to drive like this.

To get me around, I am about to buy a 1988 magna. I've organised to pick it up tomorrow night, but have not looked at it or anything. This is because it is only a cheap temporary car that I will only be driving until the beast is fixed. The only thing is that it is going to cost approx. $1500 - $2000 to recondition, not even replace the transmission!! I don't know much about the magna that I will be buying and am wondering if it is fuel injected or not, looking over the other comments it looks as though it isn't. My granddad is a magna man, but my dad and I are all for Holden's which is what I know about most. The previous comments really downgrade the magna's which disappoints me not only because I am about to purchase one, but because they are built in my hood - Adelaide. Reviews like this, no wonder magna's aren't popular. I am also a bit worried about how my reputation will fall and what my mates will think of me driving a magna out of all cars which they generally consider as being a grandpa's or geeks car.

Well, I hope I can also be another positive magna fan after I purchase the car, but it will never overtake my passion for my Commodore spirit.

P.S. NOVA4JEHOVAH is the best spiritual rapper around. Search him and listen, you will be surprised, beatified and very appreciative of this good cause rapper.

Hey, my name's Daniel. I own a TP Magna station wagon 1989-90, not bad for a first car, but a bit sluggish. The problem is the small air intake pike, the crappy head and the alternator is always playing up... here's what you do!!!

Start with the air intake, get rid of the huge filter and hose, and replace with a cheap Monza 1 meter 1/2 silicon half plastic tube; you can buy these from a super cheap auto or malz, and they only cost about $30. You might have some problems removing the filter, but there is a hidden bolt underneath the cover, then attach a pod filter of your choice (I personally removed the battery and put it where the spare tire is supposed to go, and just ran the positive wire under the factory trim) then you have heaps of room to place your filter.

Then go to your local exhaust shop and get a new exhaust including extractors; 2.5 inch hi flow is the best.

Then go to a wreckers and pick up the head for a 2000 Holden Astra; they're unblowable, LMAO!

I put my Magna on the dyno before my mods, and I was running 65 hp. After the mods 105 at the treads. I take my little beast to the burnout comp every week; I've been through 4 auto trans though; I can't find anything to help that though.

On day my Magna will have an Evo 6 3.0 liter motor turbo'd, and then we will see who has the last laugh at the drags!!!

Dani.

I have just recently bought 1989 Magna station wagon. Can anyone help with the oxygen sensor as it does not have one. Could you please help me; will it make the car run heavy on fuel, and will it stop it from running smooth?
