I have a 1998 GT. Excellent car, fun and practical.
A word of warning; you cannot judge a cars speed using the speedo - my car is standard, however using satnav on a dual carriageway I noticed that to reach an absolute 70mph the cars speedo had to read 79mph! I have standard wheels and tire sizes, so it must be a built in margin of error.
Nissans are all underpowered as standard, I've spent years reading about very cheap engine mods, timing changes, air intakes. Their retarded timing plays a big part in the low end performance.
Used to have 2.0SLX and yes, under 3500 it was slow, but drop her into the next gear down and crack the egg under the accelerator - WOOMPH!
Currently have a 1.6 thanks to an idiot in a stolen 4x4 wiping the SLX out, same deal... drop a gear and fly, the gear ratios are long for a reason ;)
Primeras are very much an acquired taste, I'm headed out to pick up a GT this week, loving everything about the car makes low end power a minor problem - crank up the timing a little, replace the air filter, or better still, whack in a new cone filter and air intake, look after the engine, plenty of cuddles, the right amount of new oil, keep the fluids at the right level, change things at the right time, and these cars will last longer than your good looks ;)
And hey - if the worst comes to the worst, and you find the whole primera thing intolerable, call me!! I know loads of people who want a GT!

My 97 GT also has a bad judder from the steering over 70 mph, and it's not due to wheel balance. Do any of you know whether its top or bottom arms causing this? All in all, it's a good all round car, but I'm considering changing it for a pug 406 2.0 executive turbo - maybe a bad move?
Hello I'm thinking of buying a Primera GT very soon and I've been thinking of getting it chipped?? Could I, and if I can't, how could I make her go faster? I'm getting a new cone air filter and maybe a new exhaust if it makes any difference.
I've seen a Primera GT Turbo :O
Now how easy or hard would it be to stick a turbo on one :) Thanks a lot.
I would presume you would get the turbo wiring ecu etc from a nissan s14 breaker.

I have a Primera 1.6L si. I have been looking everywere for a gt body kit to put on it. Do any of you know where I can get one?
John.
I've had my '99 GT for about 21 months now and its been great. I also had had the broken drive-shaft problem (broke while trying to pull out of a car-park onto a main road! : (This seems to be a common fault with these Primeras.
I think it's an excellent car and if you drive sensibly, its quite fuel efficient as well (I managed 50mpg on the M25 once!)
Unfortunately I'll have to sell it in a few months time to buy a 6/7 seater : (
I've had a 1997 GT since 2000. It has now done 86000 miles and has been a great car to drive. I have had plenty of fast cars and the Primera is pretty good, especially in third gear acceleration. Fuel consumption is pretty good and reliability has been excellent; plus, my sons' friends all think it's a cool car. I've given many hot hatch or sporty BMW a fright which is incredibly pleasing. All in all a great car.

Hey I owned a P11 GT LE on a V plate and I raced a Focus ST170 at Crail and beat it off the line and beat it down the quarter.
I sold it, being a fool wanting something with rear wheel drive. Wish I never, so if anybody has a GT LE preferably in silver that you ain't wanting any more, email me

Hi there. Well I am from New Zealand and have got a 1997 Primera UK GT. I absolutely love it. Have owned it for just over 2 years and have travelled all over NZ in it. The speedo is in Kilometres and reads 175,000km (approx 109,000miles). I have done about 45,000 miles in the past 2 years and it has never broken down. All I have had to replace is brake pads, and changed the oil and filter every 5000 Miles. Absolutely fantastic car, Pretty good on gas. Has a heap of power especially for a standard 2.0L AUTOMATIC :-) Looks great with its stock side kits and rear spoiler and I have added a set of Bronze coloured 17inch mags which sharpened up the look nicely.
I can honestly say there is nothing I dislike about my GT and if something was to happen to it I wouldn't hesitate to get another the same.
Hey.. have a t plate 1999 gt... just hit the 100k mark... seems a little dead to me recently.
Any ideas?... its completly standard.
