I have owned my grand prix since new in 2000. The only problems I have had with it were the alternator at 22000 miles, and the heated drivers seat were both replaced. Other than that the car has been great. After driving 165,000 miles basically problem free, I will definitely buy another. I own the GTP. Looking forward to the G8 this spring.
I bought my 2000 GP GT in 2001 with 15,000 km. Almost immediately I had to replace the wiper fluid pump. Just after 60,000 km I changed a front passenger wheel bearing, I was constantly losing coolant, which lead to blowing a coolant sensor. I have been topping off my power steering fluid every month or so since just over 60,000 km. My driver side rear interior light switch has been jammed in the open posistion since almost new, had to remove the light to save my battery. My "leather seats" which I treat weekly have both cracked on the sides. I have replaced my blower motor dial. All four doors had to be realigned due to rubbing the paint off in my door jambs. My interior door panels pop out of place causing excessive interior rattles. My drivers window had to be readjusted, now it scrapes my tint when used. Sometimes in cold weather doesn't open or makes a loud squeaking noise. My paint started pealing at 40,000 km, and now at 130,000 km I have to paint my quarters, fenders, trunk lid and hood. Recently I have notice a mild jerking motion when eccelerating up a hill without kicking into passing gear, my wipers are acting erratically, and I just lost 1,2,3 on my heater. This is all off the top of my head, there might be things that I have forgotten. I may seem tedious, but in my defense, my wife is the sole driver of the car and treats it very well. I have performed a great maintenance schedule, such as oil spray, oil change, fuel filter change, weekly washes, etc... This is a very nice looking car, very roomy, comfortable and has good summer and winter handling. It's a shame that my car hasn't mechanically lived up to its cosmetic values, or I would keep it and probably keep upgrading to newer models. Unfortunately I have to cut my losses and find something a little more reliable. Someone had mentioned in there blog that luckily the car was cheap. They must make good money, because at $29,000 after taxes, well I could have bought a finished summer ride and a cheap winter beater for that price.
I've had my 2000 Grand Prix GT since 35,000 miles and it now has 90,000. Everything has been great except for a few problems. The driver's side window sometimes gets stuck if you use the automatic roll down. The rear speakers only work on warm days because of a high-resistance open somewhere in the speaker line. I've had to replace something in the ignition along with some wiring that got burned up somehow. This short also took out the heater/cooling control panel. Overall, it has some problem but not more than some cars I've read about or owned. I would definitely buy another Pontiac.
I've had my 2000 Grand Prix SE for about almost 2 years now. Other than routine oil changes and tire changing, I haven't had any new problems with it beside my speed sensor going out.
