I heard about savvy lite before...rm33K..but seem not to be on the road yet.. not even at the proton dealer/branch.
I bought my savvy (MT) about 8 months ago. Until now I don't have any problem with the car. Even though some people say the looks of the car is weird or anything, but to me savvy is suitable for those who have low budget. The fuel consumption also very low. Example every day I have to drive about 100km per day and guess what I only need to pay about RM 9.50 for the fuel. As for the radiator fan don't want to stop even after we take out the key is because it just like the turbo timer system. The fan will continuing run if it detect the radiator temperature is high. But it will stop after 1 or 2 minutes. Even Iswara, Waja or Perdana don't have this kind of system. As for the looks, i suggest you just put a bigger air press (rm50),light black tinted window (rm750),change the sport rim to 14 inch and use 185/60R14 (rm900) and put a R3 spoiler at the back (rm250) Only for those don't have R3 body-kit. Trust me, it will change the looks of the car.
I agree with your comment. Some people buy car because of the shape. Some buy because of the brand although it is an ugly design.
For me, Savvy is a good car. I like the shape design. But nowadays all cars are shapeless with less edge design.
I prefer 15 inch tire maintaining the 50 series, but increase to a wider size to 185.
If I opt for 14 inch with 60 series, it will slightly affect the handling. To over come the situation, upgrade to R3 suspension coil.
No problem for my car at all.
Car design and technicalities is an option for customer.
I bought Savvy because of technicalities. I loved its power to weight ratio, handling, and an engine with a potential of modification.
The only things I have noticed for those who purchased AMT Version may experience jerking situation.
That's what car manufacturer come out with Dual Clutch system or other system. However, it is a new technologies only offered to much expensive cars.
Other Semi Auto Car also facing jerking with single dry clutch system. Anyway, Savvy is a good car.
My AMT Savvy Dec-2005 now clocking about 42,000KM has recently develop a problem i. e difficult to start. My wife is now afraid to drive the car out of town fearing she has to walk back home as the car won't start after stopping in the parking lot. Have change a new battery, the proton service centre technicians have to get the car from my home to fix the problem, but sadly it reappeared after 2 days. My 'kampung' mechanic told me the problem is related with the car remote control system after I asked him to use the car for 2 days. His advise is not to lock the car using the remote control and when the car won't start try to 'unlock/lock' the doors using the remote control for few times before trying to start the car. So far it work... but the thought that I have to walk back in the middle of the night when the car 'again' fail to start is still in my head... Any suggestion is greatly appreciated..
1) The battery regardless how good it is need to be replaced every year.
2) Difficulties to start is due to Speed Sensor. The speed sensor is located underneath the engine / gearbox bay. The sensor need to be cleaned or replace due to an accumulation of dirt. This is the main reason why car cannot start. Get it cleaned every 20000km or otherwise replacing the cable will cost extra.
Proton Savvy maintenance : Do check radiator and sensor regularly and do not hesitate to service it. Other maintenance is cool.
I owe savvy and mostly to proton..i came from sabah and working as a teacher teahing in a rural school. this is what savvy proved!
i started to own this car since september 2005 and 2 years had pass. last year, 2006, i travel almost 200km per day every 3 or 4 times a week sending my son to a chemotherapy for his cancer and now i covered 103,500 km. i change timing belt at 99,000 and plug cable at the same km. cable were change because i hit a flood. theres no trouble having my savvy around every travels i made. today i travel with it with rm15-rm20 of fuel travelling about 190km p/day. how? i have 4 kids, 2 went to school another 2 went to different babysitter. first sending my son in inanam and the baby in telipok after i u-turn towards telipok. then to tamparuli sending my 2 other kids to school at tamparuli town. next i send my wife(also a teacher) to gayaratau (rural kampong with gravel roads al the way. turning back again and straight towards ranau road to a school that i teach just about 26km from tamparuli. i have to pass hard gravel roads everyday from monday to friday and uphills and downhills almost 60% of my travelings. my savvy never dissappoint me. fuel consumption were very low even made me never worried about the yellow sign and the blinking fuel signal. i've tried reserved fuel for over 160km and still running.
if those out there think this is just a bluff, i have nothing to say, just thanks a lot to PROTON. saa1074k : the opposite man.
To save costs, always refer and ask opinions and advice from Proton mechanics. I've befriended one, and now I can save on costs like servicing the engine oil and filter, how to handle and service the radiator (which is different from other cars) and also checking for some common problems which I never had until now. Do remember, fellow savvy owners, that our cars' engine, and inside its front booth are totally different from others, so do not hesitate to get advice and training from Protons expert mechanics. As for me (a non-mechanic guy), I'm so glad to be a Proton driver, and especially savvy. Just remember, Renaults parts are expensive but the quality is better than the price. I've clocked almost 105k kilometres within 2 years, and since then I've experienced changing the parts I should change. Take care of the car, and you can save on costs. Good luck!
I'm the owner of the savvy mt. Bought in April 2005. Mileage is 47K. It is my first car. The idea to have a compact 5 door car with a great fuel saver is my target. So I bought the savvy and my dream come true hehe. My opinion on savvy it is a great fuel saver 8.5/10 point. Comfort is depend on road if city driving 6/10 maybe coz of the rear suspension is torsion beam axle with coil springs (the car easy to wag compared to Wira). If highway driving 7/10 feel more tough than my father Wira and less wag. Sound proof is 6/10 engine is loud in higher rpm and revvy make you want to change gear as fast as you can. No 'dub'sound when close the door. Handling 6.5/10 the steering feel good and accurate, change to R3 spring will add stability to handling, but sacrificing the comfort. Performance 6.5/10 cannot aspect more coz 1.2L only, sometimes feel the car underpowered in low rpm, but top speed 7/10 tried 170km in highway can go more, but feel like flying already. The Renault engine kick at 3000rpm above. Now, there is a lot mod for the engine and car, maybe can get 80hp ~ 90hp after use performance part depend to your $$$ hehe. I think that proton must do a research on its gearbox. Coz low gear is short. The engine is not smooth and I not like the jerkiness, very different from Wira engine. For my opinion the European engine is not suitable for Malaysia climate. The engine is not durable compared to Japanese engine. Now it starting to give me problem after 1y 6m using the car. It start to jerk and very hard to start. Possibility is the sensor, body throttle dirty & plug coil is fail. Dunno what maybe suspension start to sound prak! when I going out from the car. A lot of sound coming from inside the car especially dashboard. Spare part also is more expensive, but 10Km per service is cool (but service center is bad better search mechanic that expert in Renault engine). I'm buying the car for 40K and RM495/month for this car for 9 years and for me it is not a value car unless if you buy now with RM33K. Overall the savvy need more reseach by proton. For a fast revvy driver maybe savvy is the car. But for the comfort lovers better search for other car seriously!. Log on to www.savoc.net for more info.
Savvy is good for high revving. Low revving is kind of sluggish. I noticed all proton models like that.
I am more on high revving. No hesitation to push until limit. If you know how to monitor rev meter you will be able to drive the car perfectly.
Nowadays, most consumer prefers low rpm. For me,if you opt for pick up at low rpm, diesel engine is a good choice as it has more torque.
So far the car for me is good enough to travel within the city and highway.
Hi all... i am just booked savvy new face lift MT. Where I can find cheapest body kit for my savvy? Budget around Rm 500 - Rm 800.
After reading all the comment on this, I really have doubt on my new booked AMT Savvy. I'm expecting my Savvy lite within this two weeks, however, based on the list of available accessories, I wonder if air-cond, central locking (apart of the alarm) and CD player given? Heard that my loan was at 37k, but the salesman told me I would have 2k discount. The price that I discussed with him was for the AMT Savvy Lite (36999) and paid a deposit of rm100. Since I will be paying for what this salesman earned from the loan (if approved) is it too much to ask him to get me a fully tinted (front included) and a full tank fuel when delivering my car?

Are you be sure the Proton saleman gave you RM$2000.00 discount from the RM$36,999.00 (Savvy Lite)? Mean you are only pay RM$34,999.00 for new savvy lite?
I think the discount RM$2000.00 only applicable for Savvy Hiline and standard only. Pls check carefully.
I've been driving my Savvy AMT for about 2 years now. Lately the Auto Transmission signal keeps blinking on and off... experienced some difficulties in starting the car as well. Sent the car to Proton for repair.. same problems occur again after 1 week. Really disappointed..
Good car, but quite expensive spare parts. Can someone advice me on timing belt. Manual said 60000 km. Some people told me can be more than that. Pls advice.
