When I first got my Z, I was impressed with front end power, however, after driving to Phoenix from Chi-Town, I started to hear a low rumble. On my return trip, the spark plug on the rear head blew out of its' threads. I limped 200mi. backed to Phoenix. and replaced head, OEM says to replaced all bolts, but no shop in Phoenix. had replacements, meanwhile, I sheared off 2 bolts on the Cam lifter box while using torque wrench. Drove back to Chicago, replaced bolts on lifter box, but ended up with 2 different bolt lengths. Now, I need to know which bolts go where? Any insights/info?

We bought a 95 Monte. Boy that was a mistake. Timing belt went, oil leak, brakes have been done lets say 6 times in the 2 yrs we owned it, can't seem to get them right, leaves brake dust all over the wheel rims, squeaks etc... Transmission went, alternator, water pump, gas pump. It only had 28,000 miles when I got it in 2000. Good thing my brother and brother in law own there own car shops or I would be out more money than I am. The console lid broke, idles too fast. This car is a persons worst nightmare!!! Stay away from Monte Carlo. My sister has a 97 and hers is not much better.

I bought the Monte Carlo in 1995 when it came out. I bought the LS model. I have to say this was one of the best cars I have ever owned. I just recently traded it in after 247,000 km and 8 years. I had to replace the manifold gasket and also the air conditioning died a year ago, but other than regular upkeep and wear and tear items, it has been a pleasure to drive.

I own a 95 z-34.

Great car, Its worth the extra maintenance cost!!!

Rides great, looks great, plenty of room, handles better then my old 87 mustang Gt, It doesn't handle like a 4500 lb. car. Brakes are not that bad, But I wish I had rear discs.

The altenator, timing belt, fuel pump, and the starter All replaced before 100,000

all seem pretty normal for a performanced based car driven hard.

The Transmission gave me problems and the GM warranty company refused to pay...

The trans. would drop down a gear after apr. 3-4 hours on the highway. This has been a problem for me...errr.

Plenty of room and plenty of power is my kind of car...

I just bought a 95' Monte Carlo with 165,000 miles call me crazy, but so far I have enjoyed it. It does have it's issues. But nothing too major I have to get all struts replaced and a new fuel filter wouldn't hurt and they tell me it should last me a while. The mechanic I took it to said for the miles it was in good shape, I just run around town so it will suit me just fine, and in about a year I'll get something newer. This is actually the 2nd monte I've ever had I did have a 74 Monte when I was 17 and it was a great car. Chevy's rule!

Joy.

In the past 3 years I have owned 3 95 Monte Carlo's(2) ls models and (1) z34. I love these cars and have had my share of problems with them all, transmissions in the ls models and alternator problems in all of them (bear for the z34). But hey these cars hadle great and my z34 (80k bought for $2000) has great power, but have found a lot of great low cost modifications to increase power and handling are available. As for the people with the brake problems have you noticed how well this car coasts up on people. and try not to brake hard because you will roast the rotors. change out the rotors to high performance slotted ones. kits are also available for rear wheel discs. Also for you power nuts try head work raise the compression to 10 to 1 and porting and polish uper and lower intake manifolds for 18% better air flow with 5 angle valve job. you will notice at least 50hp gains. (not for someone who does not want to do maintenance). Another one that is simple is boring the throttle body to 70mm,the whole throttle body bored and polished is $300 (can't beat that) and 15hp gains poven. Look around the web for 3.4dohc and find out what I mean. I'm not here to advertise and respect this site enough not to.

Mine does the same crazy revving thing in the morning. Try turning the engine off and pumping the accelerator three times and turning it back on immediately. This will reset the computer, sometimes it works sometimes it does not.

Hi, We Have a 1995 Monte Carlo Z34 Also. And we read all the comments posted here and we have had ALL the Same Issues, Like the RPM Reving, Squeaking Breaks, Broken Console, And Lazy Passenger Power Window. But We Love the Performance and Handling of this car and All the Issues Will Be Fixed If Either the Car Or Me Goes to the Grave first, Divorce the Woman that came with the car??? Na I Love them both!!!,,, GT (Just Married Both)

OK People READ UP!, The Z-34 reving problem can be fixed by replacing the Mass Air Sensor, AND,the IAC, Idle Air Controller., this solved my reving issues and it runs perfect. The Noisy A/C Compressor is because it is leaking refrigerant and losing oil as well. either replace the compressor or have it Resealed and oiled up. The Lazy Passenger window needs adjustment, Simple fix, failure to do it will burn out the window Motor, This Part alone is $150 plus Labor, If you service the Transmission every 30K it will last over 200k, and don't forget to Replace the timing Belt Every 50k...Take care of the Car and it will Take care of you. Most Complaints stated here could be avoided if you all just READ The Owners manual with service guidelines. The Console problem??? Is that the Biggest problem??? Yea you forgot about it too HAHA, And I replaced my Glove-Box Latch 3 times too, but all is good and if you take care of this car it will reward you with great Performance with a Cadillac ride.

Question? What is the difference in a 98, Monte LS, and a 98, Monte Z34. I'm just about to buy a 98 Z34 with 90k on it for 2,000, someone write back if you could thanks.

The difference between a Monte Carlo LS and a Monte Carlo Z34 is practically just the motor size, and the hp. The LS has a 3.1 L V6 with 160 hp, and the Z34 I believe has a 3.4 L DOHC V6 with 210 hp engine. I have a 99 Monte Carlo LS, with 166,000 miles and I paid 2000 dollars for mine, and it is still running strong. They are good cars, but you have to take care of them. If I may say, use dex cool antifreeze, I thought I blew a head gasket, because my coolant turned black. They said it was the coolant I used and that I needed to use dex cool. if you need any more info, just ask gustoff14@hotmail.com Good Luck.

I have a '95 Monte Carlo Z34 and preparing to sell it. I bought it the end of 2000 and 4 months after I bought it the console lid broke completely off (no big deal). I loved my Monte, but I've put so much money into repairs and now I've got so many things that went wrong all at one time that I just don't see the sense in putting more into it when I can buy another car. I replaced the timing belt & tensioner pulley @ 93K miles, the water pump & thermostat @ 117K miles, the transmission went @ 117K miles on my way from picking it up from having the pump & therm replaced... The A/C went out around 108K miles along with the drivers window motor and last month the passenger's window motor went. Add that to the rack & pinion is leaking along with the oil pan & cam towers leaking.

My avg mileage is around 10K annually so I don't push it in that manner, but I loved my Monte & hate to get rid of it, but I can't work on it my self like I did my '70 or '72 Monte. Plus the CD player doesn't work & hasn't for several years now, the shifter button is a pain to push in & hurts my thumb/hands, the security light has been on for almost a year and nobody can figure out why (yes, even the dealer). Let's face it they don't make cars like they used to.

OH and as far as the throttle goes I have a zip-tie holding in the cable because the plastic broke off the side and I've had to replace the starter (4 times) and that totally sucks because of how it's put in there.

I think I'll be looking for a '70 Nova as my project car after I sell the Monte since I've bought an SUV last week.
