I have a 95 monte carlo and last night the security light came on and it kept missing. once I shut it down and tried to start I get nothing, but lights. I cleaned both keys, but still nothing. please help please email me at ctara56@aol.com.
Ma'am your problem would be your keys. The key you use in your ignition has a small metal chip in it. The monte carlos are designed with a program that if it reads the wrong key, it will shut down the whole cars system. So it is very importsnt not to put a dirty, wet, or dulled key in the ignition. When it shuts down the system it only does it for approximately 4 minutes (in the manual) What you will probably have to do is get a new key. IF you can rub your finger on the chip and not be able to feel it, your key is junk, and its time for a new one. Anyways that is the only reason your security light comes on. I have been in that situation, so I no. The new key helped, no security light since. thanks.
Oh Man, where to start LOL.
First, I love my 95'Monte Z34. Yes, like any good o'll American car, there are always pros and cons, especially to this Monte z34.
Pros: awesome feeling on the highways, guts and luxury (cruising & high-speed). Sporty feel and a relatively sleeper-car (everyone assumes it's too heavy for any proper acceleration).
As for Cons: Ideals like a roller-coaster (to the point, even if my foot is on the brake, I can still feel my Monte wanting to slowly move forward) or if feels and sounds like it's gonna choke itself out at red lights or intersections (Please give feed back to this con).
Another Con: "oil"-MY-Gawd; LOL, I think I go through at least 1/2-1 L of oil (1/8th-1/4 gallon) of oil per week :s Apparently, this is a major problem on the 95'Monte z34's oil reservoir cut-off valve (washer), it's estimated at about 6-8 hours of work to replace a $5.00 seal LOL. (Please give feed back if anyone has had similar situations).
The other Con: is full consumption, my Monte z34 demands insane amount of fuel, I fill-up every 5 days, but I'm driving about 40 km/day (25miles/day). I know it doesn't seem too much, but I usually have to refill at about 200-225ish km/refill (125 miles/refill) : Note this is 95% city driving (lots of stop and goes) ; I'm just wondering if it's me or my Monte z34; or is everyone in the same boat?
The last part is not a Con: every car has its ups and downs on the maintenance; but one think I am most certain of, any engine work done on the 95'Monte z34 will be costly because of its high-compact and most half-ass design ever that I have seen and worked on. 95' Monte z34 owners know exactly what I mean, why did Chevy bury the battery and alternator (which blows often, so I have heard, but only once for me). Please forgive my rant and rave of my Monte z34, but I've placed enough cash into mine, that I have to love it LOL.
Monte die-hard for life :D.
Please feel free to leave any comments and help/advise to my Good o'll 95'Monte z34 @ e-mail: tenno_oyabun@hotmail.com
I too have the same issues listed in this thread with an idle problem on a 95 z34 Monte. Mostly when it's cold. It will start and rev up and down, miss and sometimes quit, but will run great after it warms up. I've replace idle control valve and the (TPS) throttle positioning sensor with no success. Any other ideas? MAS maybe?
Well I changed the MAS and it still has the same problem. At my wits end, somebody please advise.
My 95 Monte Carlo Z34, does the same thing. Any time of day when the engine is cold. It will idle high, then stalls. The second time it will idle high, then idles rough around the 1000 RPM mark. When the car is warmed up, it's smooth.
I replaced the IAC valve. Also sprayed the inside of the Throttle Body. Still not better!!! It's like a guessing game, till you get a Diagnostic done.
Thanks for reading and typing comments. Someday we will figure out the problem!!!
Re; High idle spike @ start up. Lower intake gaskets dry and get brittle on these engines. When warmed up, gaskets expand and seal correctly, explaining why engine seems to run better when warmed. Get gaskets replaced, all of them, your Chevy dealer will know.
I purchased a 1995 Monte Carlo Z34 used, and it didn't come with a owner's manual, just a cassette.
It runs good, and I love this car, but could anyone tell me where I could maybe get a owners manual?
Thanks in advance :)
You can most likely find an owner's manual on Ebay :)
Man, you guys are scaring me to death. I just bought a '95 Z34 for my daughter and paid $3500. I thought I was getting a good deal as the car only had 64,000 miles on it. It seems like that doesn't make a difference. I guess I should have stuck with the reliable Fords but I just couldn't pass up what I thought was an excellent deal. Next time I'll do a little more research before I jump in with both feet. Anyone want to buy a good used car?
