I'm thinking to buy this car the next year, but I don't know! because I have heard so many thinks about it! they told me that it has a good motor, but it has bad elect rics and some other guys told me that it has bad motor and good elect ricks... I don't know what can I do, so plz help me guys. and I want to ask some think else the wheel is in right door?

Hello there...guys...I'm from Malaysia... currently I'm using Proton Gen2 MME edition for 3 weeks already... The MME edition is develop by R3 division which is Re-tuned back for performance. The price difference around 8k from Gen2 high Line. The car complete with bodykit and difference spoiler and 16 inch wheels with continental tyres and Performance exchaust and performance spark plug cable and slotted disc brake. The car horsepower increased from 110HP to 121HP. So far it's a good a car and I know some people says gen2 is not a good car and don't have quality. But this apply to gen2 first batch because I agree the quality is bad and the door also is very light seems to me like nothing inside there except the power window motor. But when I purchased this car it seems the door is heavier and sound from engine and vibration is reduce. The power in low rev rpm is redefine back the low end already good. If try with Toyota vios 1.5 VVT no problem at all. So guys don't want to heart anybody just my opinion hehehehe...

i commented before and now I want to give you my latest thing about the gen2
i started asking people who already got it to make sure it's the good one to buy
and I found those things
1. the electric parts are not that good and the water can reach the fuse box and some other electric parts like the windows and the door lock which lead to disturbance and to some parts not working like the interior light (saw it my self)
2.the shield wipers are not preforming right that the rear one can go round and round and get stuck sometimes (saw it myself)
3.the paint quality is not good at all that in any small crash the paint easily gets out the car...you can see it clear in any small part of the car that has been crashed, for an instance I thought it was only this car, but I went 2 another proton in the parking..another one that has been crashed and I found the same problem with the paint.
I freaked out guys...i don't think I'm gonna buy this car...

well I'm from Egypt also and I'm this close to buy the GEN2.
Of course the 3 main competitors are the YARIS, LANCER, GEN2.
As for the toyota: I know its good and everything, but I will never ever ever drive a 1.3L automatic engine, I already had a 1.3L AT car and it's a suffering!!! especially if you like performance!
As for the lancer: all people agree on this car, as its good in performance and looks and everything, and its price is not the high for japanese cars, despite I loved the GEN2 but I'm still affraid from what ppl say about it... so now for me its either the lancer or the GEN2.
GEN2: people say that it's a runner! the engine drives fast, but of course the interior is cheaply made (this is what they say) and ez elarab won't let me test drive it!! this is the problem!!
Overall, getting a GEN2 is kinda risky because ppl giggle a lot about it... lancer is kinda safer buy!! but still, gen2 is is like 15,000 cheaper and not found a lot in the streets... just if anyone test drived the GEN2 please tell us what dd he find!!!

I am a owner of a Gen-2 1.3L A/T version (Model-2006) and I am from Bangladesh.
I have read lots of comments about gen-2. But people talk about problems that are not always true. below I will list problems that I have been facing or faced with gen-2.
1. When I bought this car back in 2006, I found that the engine is noisy and lack of Power to push the car. Yes! it was loud at all speeds. But I rectified the problems during my 5000 KM service. You have to remember one thing here that a new car has a run-in period of at least 1000 KM and during this run in period the engine will be noisy.
But in my case, during 1000 KM service service center used Castrol GTX 20W-50 oil, which is not suitable for this car. As a result I felt noisy and less power at low end. But in my 5000 KM service I used Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 oil and find my car more responsive and less noisy. So, I conclude that a 50 weight lub oil is not suitable for Gen-2 and main cause of Engine hashness and I will advice gen-2 owners to use 40 weight lub oils for smooth driving experience... this is only my opinion.
***i have mentioned the name of Castrol Magnatec because this is the only 10W-40 oil available in Bangladesh. There could be other brands in other countries.
2. I think the interior of Proton Gen-2 is OK, but door trims are not that good.
3. There could be a initial disk brake noise problem with Gen-2, but it will vanish by time.
Paint job, Fabric seats are OK.
But I really admire this proton Gen-2. It is really fun to drive.
I didn't find any other problems with Gen-2 other than the above mentioned 3 points.

OK, For all Egyptian and whoever like this Gen2's... I got some good news. Now Proton have launch the new Gen2 CPS 1.6. It's now have a new improved 1.6 CPS engine with 120bhp, no more pedal delay, less fuel consumption, give extra an accelleration start from 1500rpm that produce and tuning by LOTUS and believe me that was a very rare CamPro engine... also a great new look interior, new sporty dashboard, seat and use leather finishing comes with black and grey combination color. New look door panel. Also people will love it's new face-lift with a new front, rear bumper, side skirt finishing and new spoiler.
Proton have replacing overall A/C system with a new design and no more uncooling A/C and noisy. Alarm has been change with a new electronic part and no more problem. From inside, no more loud sound while driving (improved sound proof meterial). Shock absorber has been change with a new design and still promissing great handling. Power windows switch also not using the 1st and 2nd batch version parts and the location has been change at the door panel and power windows motor and all it's compartment inside door also have a new design and it's will last untill 5 years.
Overall...the Gen2 CPS1.6 is great car and trouble free and I already have 1. More powerful and solid than the older version of Gen2's. Enjoy!!!
Hi.. I'm also from malaysia. What all he/she mention about the new Gen2 CPS 1.6 IAFM above was true.. Nothing I have to change but need to add on something that he/she have missing.
1: New Campro CPS engine also built-in with IAFM (Intake Air Fuel Module) for reducing fuel consumption and give smooth acceleration at High Torgue even on the Low RPM. CPS upgrade produce the 120bhp of power.
2: Fitted with new design 16" 6 spokes alloy rims.
3: New oil-sum design.
Now Proton become better than before even get stronger since a new CEO manage that company which is very care about QC. Now day, Proton already produce a new car in their lair (factory) early this years of 2008, and that car was called as new Proton Saga 1.3 IAFM (compact sedan) which is got 94bhp (toyota vios VVT only got 92bhp). This new Saga already get booked just in Malaysian market at 38,000 unit within 3 months. That all I just want to share. I'm from egypt and hesitated a lot to buy the proton gen2 as it have a lot of competitors in it's category and price range e.g. new accent, lancer, Honda city and Nissan sunny.
So it was a very difficult decision also I've tried the gen2 of one of my friends.
Finally I took the decision and bought the gen2 and i'll tell you some thing after buying it and now I've made 5000 km with it.
The car is really a very great car in every thing and have no problems in the finish or quality control and I recommend it for every one who wants to buy a car in it's category.
Plz don't believe any one say that it's a bad car because I think that he didn't own or ride it, because it's an amazing car and every body will love it after driving.

I do think this new gen2 cps facelift is a great looking car. can't wait to drive it as my salesman said that the car will be delivered within 2 more weeks (already bought it)..=)

I own a Proton Gen2 Campro 1.6 which I bought in last year (2007). Black in colour. This car is really good. Good handling because of Lotus adjustment, engine is sensitive and roaming, sporty exterior, good quality power windows (except poor interior material : (,hehe..) All of my friends and also the boss of modification shop said that's a cool & sporty car.Haha!
Yes, it is very difficult to deny that the first batch of Proton Gen2 which produced by 2004 are fulled with small problems. But year after year, Proton company keep improving this car and now what I drive is an unbeat Gen2. There are more Gen2 running on Malaysia's road nowadays. Notice that? Why? Because we a multiracial society (Malay, Chinese, Indian)start trust to this car. Indeed a great car!
Everyone should stop listen to the long ago stories about Gen2's bad news. Just go to try now and you will be surprised! My Gen2 is still under modification. Peace... :-) Proton company has launched new Gen2 facelift Campro CPS on 2008. More improvement and the engine power has reached 125HP! A fuel-saving car too! Goodnight!
