1994 Alfa Romeo 164 QV 3.0 petrol

Summary:

Best car I have ever owned

Faults:

Hazard warning switch repaired. $20 part and 2 hours labour.

General Comments:

This car is still in showroom condition.

Paint is flawless and the interior leather is in top condition.

Have made a few mods. High-performance discs and pads. Free-flow exhaust. R-rated tyres.

Handles superbly, sounds amazing.

Great seats and plenty of room for my 6ft 4 frame.

1990 Alfa Romeo 164 3.0 V6

Summary:

One of the most fantastic cars I have ever owned

Faults:

Nothing mechanically went wrong. All I had to do mechanically to this car was get it serviced, which involved the usual routine things like replacing drive belts including the cam belt, a radiator hose and the usual oil and filter changes, and brake pads, which you have to do to any car regardless of its make or model.

I had to replace the hood lining as it dropped down, which cost $350 NZD. Also, just before I sold it, I noticed some rust starting to appear around the rear window just inside the boot lid.

General Comments:

This is without a doubt one of the most comfortable, reliable, driver friendly, attractive looking and beautiful cars I have ever owned. My mother has a BMW 320I and The Alfa was a far superior car in my opinion. I cried the day I sold the Alfa.

The only reason I sold the Alfa was that I needed a utility and I had the opportunity to buy a brand new V6 Holden at a good price. If I had the spare garage space, I would still own the Alfa.

1989 Alfa Romeo 164 V6 3.0

Summary:

Beats a BMW hands down

Faults:

Climate Control was faulty when I bought it. Kept pushing out hot air. Apparently this is a common problem. Needed a new stepper motor which was too expensive to consider.

Cam belt went at 107,000 miles. Required a replacement engine.

The motor for the electric sunroof was wearing out and needed replacing.

Due to expense of parts a medium sized accident made it uneconomical to repair.

General Comments:

A very strong performer with great acceleration and handling.

Very good on long journeys. Comfortable ride and capable cruising speeds.

Beautiful inside and out. Mine was black with matching leather. Great styling by Pininfarina.

The only down side is the cost of repairs. Everything is electric, and everything wears out. Buy one cheap and be prepared to spend a fortune on it.

1990 Alfa Romeo 164 3.0 24 Valve

Summary:

Cheap and fantastic to drive Alfa

Faults:

Nothing really.

Had to replace the climate control system (A$1400).

Tyres were bald, bought new alloys and wheels (17inch Momo Sport, PZERO) (A$3400).

General Comments:

Fantastic and beautiful car.

Dashboard is a little uninspiring, but goes very quickly.

17 inch Momo wheels with "Rubber Band" PZeros make this baby stick like super glue.

Mercedes and BMW wished they're cars looked as good as this!
