2002 Daewoo Lanos Sports 1.6L DOHC

Summary:

A cute little car that is cheap to run and very very reliable and easy to drive

Faults:

When I first got the car, the exhaust was rattling when you started the car moving off - sounded a lot like it was scraping on the ground (dealer replaced under warranty with no problems)

Drivers electric window gearbox started to die, it would go down, but not back up again (again dealer replaced with no problems under warranty)

Plastic trim in the boot lining is starting to move around a little bit - but again that is more my own fault really for not securing that gas bottle...

General Comments:

The Car is quite zippy - being it is the 3 door hatch model and accelerates very well.

Stopping power is very good, feels like it just throws out the anchors and hauls itself up - constantly, predictably and reliably.

Handles well - even at high speeds it still feels like it is planted on the road firmly.

I have a tiny bit of difficulty with the clutch, but that is driver error (read: lack of skill) as my mates have no problems at all with it. When changing gears "casually" people in the car tend to feel the gear change more, but when I'm really giving the car a lot of poke she changes very smooth!

The engine likes to rev too and it has a very usable power band - you can rev it for the cool factor and rev it to use the power too.

A great little car in shopping center car parks too.

I found it to be extremely efficient to drive as well, and I drive in a very lead-foot style too.

LANOS + NOS = LOL

2002 Daewoo Lanos

Summary:

Gets you from A to B cheaply

Faults:

The dashboard cracked after only 6 months, but was replaced by the dealer.

There was a problem with the compressor in the air con; this was also replaced.

Then there was a problem with the relays. Daewoo would not replace it for 2 months, but the dealership gave me a car to use while they were waiting for the part. In the end they had to take the part out of another model so I could have my car back.

General Comments:

I love the car! It's zippy, great on fuel and reliable. It helps that I have 3 years roadside assistance and factory warranty for 3 years. I paid 13,990 drive away. The metallic paintwork was thrown in as well as headlight covers. I have also travelled long distance in it, and it went like a dream.

2002 Daewoo Lanos Sport 1.6 DOHC E-TECH

Summary:

Value for money with good performance

Faults:

Front left headlight which is meant to be sealed has very bad condensation (water) in it.

Drivers seat has broken threads which look unsightly.

General Comments:

The Daewoo Lanos Sport has better than average power. I was surprised at the willingness of the engine to rev.

Anything under 3000RPM and the car is mediocre, but once it gets in the 3000-5500 rev range it really takes off.

Some people may find it a little noisy, but I actually like being able to hear the engine.

Fuel economy is not great for a car of this size. I average 10km/Litre, but tend to thrash it a little bit.

I did some serious research and test drove a LOT of cars in the price range and found the Lanos Sport to be the best value. I paid $16,990 AUD drive away which included power steering, windows, central locking, CD player, air conditioning etc.

The three years warranty and scheduled servicing was the deal clincher, although that is no longer being offered.

I have read a lot of bad reviews about this car, and don't believe that they are warranted. My girlfriend also has one and has done 50,000km's in hers.

All the problems I have had with the car (minor ones so far) are being rectified this week without any question from the dealer.

Great review. Be interested to know how the car is going if you still have it with some more kilometres on the clock.
