1988 Honda Legend K3 2.7 petrol

Summary:

I love it, but everything seems to cost $3000 to fix

Faults:

The problem I have got, is that the car feels like it is in 3rd gear when I take off, so I put it into 2nd gear, then as soon as I am rolling, I put it into drive, and all the quotes I get are 1500 to 3000 dollars to fix the problem. So can any one help me out here? I have been told that the gear box solenoids (the lower one) can get a build up of muck on it and make it difficult to operate properly, does any one know how to take these solenoids out?

The tappet noise problem, may be fixed by removing the sump off the engine and cleaning the oil pick up filter/mesh, as this is very fine and can get blocked easily over time.

General Comments:

The Legend is a great car, and one day I would like to fit a DVD screen in the upper dash compartment, plus do a few other treat add ons, even a twin system that looks standard. 4 pipes out the back... yum.

1988 Honda Legend 2.7 injected

Summary:

High-performance and reliable

Faults:

Nothing major has gone wrong.

The Anti-lock brakes made a strange noise periodically whenever the car was in motion. It didn't seem to hinder performance at all. Apparently it is a problem with many Legends of this age, and is fixed (or avoided) by disconnecting the anti-lock brake fuse. You won't have anti-lock brakes, but you get rid of the noise.

General Comments:

As long as everything is in working order, this car is a pleasure to drive.

Considering its age and the amount of kilometres on the engine, the Legend still shows plenty of life.

The only real problem I have is that the Legend is front-wheel drive, and also the wheels spin very easily under acceleration. The accelerator barely needs to be touched to give a sufficient amount of acceleration off traffic lights, and you need to be aware of that if you want to conserve your front tyres.

The car isn't the best as far as economy is concerned, and parts aren't the cheapest in the world, but in the end, it's a very fun car to have. These cars are getting quite cheap to buy these days as well...

1988 Honda Legend 2.7

Summary:

Affordable luxury

Faults:

Transmission was sticking in 3rd gear but it was quite easily fixed. A few little things like the carpet are worn in some places.

General Comments:

The car is quite luxurious considering it is over 10 years old. It has all the luxuries of German Marquees like leather trim, wood veneer, sunroof, electric seats and cruise control.

The seats are very comfortable and there is a large amount of room in the rear. The car has very good build quality.

The car has a very smooth ride and the engine is quick and responsive. The styling has the lines of a big swooping coupe. It is a long car at almost 5 metres.
