I am in the process of looking through the internet to see if I can get help.

I purchased a land rover discovery model 1993 about 6 months ago. It had about 150,000 kms on the clock from a second hand yard in Brisbane. Since then I have had no end of trouble. The warranty has now run out and it looks like I will be left with a bill that I will never be able to manage. It has an over heating problem that no one can fix. It has been in the work shop so many times that I have lost count of them. It is there at present. The RACQ have a record of the number of call out that I have made and on checking last week they have come out to me at least ten times.

The thermostat has been replaced 4 times, the radiator has been repaired twice, the timing belt, tensioner idler all have been replaced, the head gasket twice has been replaced, the head has been done up.

This is what usually happens although at times it runs well.

I will drive up to 100 kms and stop, soon as I then drive another 2 or 3 kms and it will start to over heat with the temp gauge rising. Soon as it cools down I will check the bung on top of the thermostat housing and there will be no water in it there.

The RACQ service station in Ipswich now suggests after talking with Land Rover in Brisbane that it may have a loose liner in one of the cylinders. They have been aware of this problem now for the last week and after Xmas I will be going into them to see if I can get some satisfaction.

It is a 4 cylinder diesel.

Do you have any suggestions as why it continues to over heat?

I need help quick as I have no transport and would like to hear from any owners that may of had a similar problem and a solution to it.

I had the same on a TD5 - turned out to be failed head gasket and a warped head.
