1956 Morris Oxford Series II 1.5 B series
Totally reliable and full of character
Speedometer cable broke.
Electric clock stopped.
Distributor bushes needed renewing.
Steering and suspension bushes (rubber) replaced.
Back axle seals leaked oil onto brake shoes.
Left-Hand rear axle bearing replaced.
Points in SU-fuel pump replaced.
Some rust removed in the rear wheel arches.
This Oxford was my first car (was using parent's rusty old Corolla before this) and I still have it and love it to bits. It is completely original, and has never even had the cylinder head taken off!
It has been so reliable and is so simple to keep in first-class order mechanically and electrically. Upkeep has really been just common sense - very simple to oil, grease, tune up and replace those 50 year old Lucas bullet connectors.
Upholstery is all original, in perfect condition and very comfy. Nice bench seats and you can fit lots of people in it.
Nice big boot too.
At 89,000 miles the engine is down on performance a bit and it was never a rocket - but I didn't buy it to be a racing car, so it performs admirably to me. If I want to go fast I'll take my Morris Isis out :-)
With new suspension bushes and accurate rack-and-pinion steering it handles very well.
