General Comments:

This car is comfortable and quick considering the weight. Would have been a brilliant family car.

However, after searching the internet, found out they had some build problems with this model, all of which happened to me!

The parts cost more than the car!

I covered 47000 miles in my 605. Never any problems. I would have another without hesitation. I have owned 7 Peugeots in 15 yrs. I LOVE THEM!!!

1996 Peugeot 605 SVE 3.0 petrol

Summary:

Brilliant ride, Luxury and Build Quality quite impressive with a timeless Pininfarina style

Faults:

Power Steering - Pump appeared to struggle - replaced belts and used a lighter/thinner power steering fluid, which cleared this problem up.

Relay problem with Electronic Control Unit (Air con and temp display) - found faulty relays were to blame (located under the steering wheel area). Try replacing these before giving up (may be in different place, depending on country).

Radiator Pressure Chamber sprung a leak, easily fixed - new part.

General Comments:

Brilliant Cruise Control, Supple Seats (leather treatment helps these soften up GREATLY). All good gadgets and everything one could want. Suspension could be a little softer on the normal setting, but otherwise, love the sound of the engine / exhaust note, and gets a lot of looks in Australia, as we only sold 48 of these. (Spoiler helps this)

607 Mags look great and freshen up the appearance.

Brilliant, soporifique-I just bought my first 605,complementing my lovely 604 and daily drive 505 SRDt.

The only car that feels like the 605 is the Bentley Brooklands 1990s..Peugeot marketing in Australia has been run by dimwits... what a shame they did a worse job than was done with the 604.I met one of the marketing guys from Peugeot Aus.-Sime Darby, I told him what a disapointing job they were doing with the 607.All they want to sell seems to be 307s.What a shame.

1993 Peugeot 605 SVI3.0 3.0LITRE V6

Summary:

Extremely cheap luxury motoring

Faults:

The air conditioning compressor failed 3months after purchase. We had to have the system reconfigured to use a more environmentally friendly gas.

The brake rotors have had to be replaced after 5 months.

The head gasket blew after 12 months, further inspection resulted in a total engine rebuild.

The gear shift lever is falling apart.

The auto aerial has had to be replaced after 18 months.

General Comments:

This car is a joy to drive. It goes like a scalded cat when required and cruises effortlessly. It is a supremely comfortable upstaged in this respect only by its predecessor the 604.

It can be hard on the gas around town.

Whilst we have had a costly experience with this car, I think it has been more the odd one out rather than the norm for this model.

1991 Peugeot 605 SV 3.0 V6 petrol

Summary:

Bargain classic

Faults:

The usual crumbly French plastics: 3 out of 4 of the plastic internal door handles broke, need to buy the whole armrest to replace them.

All 4 brake discs have shown cracking and needed replacing.

General Comments:

I paid an absurdly cheap $NZ5200 for it at auction and still can't believe what a bargain this under-rated car is.

Beautiful and timeless styling: Often gets mistaken for a new 406.

Quality leather and wood interior.

Turbine-smooth V6 engine, but lumpy auto.

Others have complained about the electrics, but all the complicated gubbins (air, seats, remote central locking, trip computer, CD changer) still work beautifully.

This is an October 2003 update of my earlier review. The 605 driving experience continues to be superb (just back from a tour of NZ North Island). Reliability continues to be poor (fortunately I bought a comprehensive warranty) :

-power steering pulley keyway broke -needed whole camshaft replaced!

- both head gaskets replaced

- auto air conditioning went crazy for a week, stuck on 30 degrees -OK again now.

Body continues to be perfect and rustfree despite our beachfront location.
