1987 Volvo 360 GLT 2.0 petrol

Faults:

A bit of rust has built up where the rear spoiler is bolted on, and the radiator is using a lot of water and is full of an orange substance which has turned the water brown. Have flushed radiator and still having problems.

General Comments:

Very comfortable car, getting expensive and hard to find parts for.

Very reliable but a bit hard on gas.

Not the best looking car, but everyone enjoys a Saturday night cruise in it.

All around great buy.

Would love some feedback on how much it could be worth.

Thanks.

That would be rust in your radiator.

1987 Volvo 360 GLT 2.0L unleaded petrol

Summary:

Well-engineered, solid, trustworthy

Faults:

A/C compressor bit the dust, but it was my fault as it ran out of gas and I just left it empty for months - the seals dried out and that was that.

General Comments:

Solid, reliable, safe car.

Obviously it is not as fast as newer cars, but the build quality is outstanding, and the engine and transmission are smooth.

It's an all round dependable and well engineered machine.

1986 Volvo 360 GLT 2 litre fuel injected

Summary:

Good value, good fun, well made

Faults:

From time to time is seems to lack fuel and splutters, losing power for a few seconds, even 10 or 20 seconds on two occasions. This only happens at low engine speeds, cruising. Driven hard it goes fine.

Minor rust on doors just below windows, also near one tail light.

Rear window de-mister wires were loose.

One speaker only sometimes works.

Hatch door rattles.

Dashboard cracked in places.

Interior drivers door handle trim falls off.

General Comments:

I paid $2000 for this in roadworthy condition, so can live with the odd mystery fuel problem. Solid feel, good brakes, comfortable seats, effective air-conditioning.

Spoiler is handy for siting picnic items on, I question the aerodynamic benefits.

Has always started first time.

I wrote the above review. I have not had a problem since I unplugged the airflow meter and plugged it back in, I guess/hope it was a bad connection.

Drivers door trim had been refitted incorrectly, I fixed it, so now the plastic thing around the handle does not fall off any more.

1985 Volvo 360 GLT 2.0 B200E

Summary:

Overall Good Car

Faults:

The little reader that tells you how many km's died just before 70,000 km. not a major problem and probably easily fixed.

The muffler completely fell off 2 months ago (after 19 years of ownership). My step-father used to drive the car 40km every day 6 times a week for 7 years. So for how long the cars been going this isn't surprising.

PLENTY of problems with the brakes today. Read brake shoes soaked with brake fluid, lots and lots of leaks. I have to top up the reservoir every month.

Major oil leaks in the engine, but the car is very old so I guess it's not surprising.

Very odd rattling noise when I between 1900 and 2200 rpm. I suspect a loose bearing.

When changing into reverse gear it crunches like mad. I have to turn the car off, change to reverse then turn it on again.

Very strange sound that sounds like something is about to fall off when I depress clutch. Unknown problem, seems very bad, but at the moment doens't affect driving.

General Comments:

Very forgiving car. I thought my step-father was doing oil changes, he thought I was. This lasted for about 3 years. Car didn't seem to mind.

Very good acceleration in third and fourth gears. Slow acceleration in 1st, 2nd and 5th.

Corners well, I have no problem accelerating around a corner at high speeds just for the thrill.

All the problems listed above are for a 19 year old car that has had a lot of use. Over the past 3 years it has had horrible servicing and would be in a better state had I of had more time and more knowledge to give it the proper care it deserves.
