2004 Audi A4 1.8T 1.8 turbo

Summary:

A quality premium car

General Comments:

The build quality of this car is astounding. The tight shut-lines and perfect paint exudes almost perfect visual quality.

The same quality carries on into the interior with no cheap plastics to be found anywhere, unlike some other premium marques.

The Multitronic gearbox is a marvel to drive, especially in hilly areas. It is uncanny how the car chooses the perfect ratios when descending a hill without you doing anything. Audi's CVT does not exhibit any of the rubber banding effect found on other belt based CVTs.

Ride is on the firm side, but not at all uncomfortable.

2000 Audi A4 SE 1.8

Summary:

Excellent car

Faults:

One wiper blade damaged (longitudinal split) after only 9 months.

The service workshop however replaced it for free, which was a pleasant surprise.

The car is otherwise very reliable.

General Comments:

It is a fun car to drive.

Handles better than most other cars, (with exception of perhaps BMW and Mercedes?)

Suspension set slightly hard, but generally comfortable enough.

Very high build quality.

Very clean, practical and ergonomic interior.

Chose it over the BMW3 because of its better interior space.

Only shortcoming is its relatively rough sounding engine at 2800rpm up-wards.

The 'smart' transmission needs some getting used to.

Would like to hear others' opinions on the engine and transmission.

1997 Audi A4 SE 1.8

Summary:

Excellent car (I think better than BMW3), let down by poor representation

Faults:

Right lower arm of front wheels replaced at 10000km. topped up power steering fluid at 20000km. otherwise fine.

General Comments:

(Dynamic Shift Program) transmission can be unsure even when climbing moderately steep slopes, can be a source of discomfort/annoyance as the engine tends to 'roar' on climbs.

Otherwise, the car is fun to drive & handles great compared to japanese competitors.

I travel long distance frequently on expressways, so auto-cruise would have been super, but dealer very hesitant to install OEM component. I feel dealer support is weak in this area. In this case, I get the impression BMW for example, listens to their customers better?

1996 Audi A4 1.8

Summary:

Chose this over the 3 Series and did not regret it!

General Comments:

The A4 was a good car, with engine performance satisfying.

Only fault is perhaps the rear seats, which were short and therefore uncomfortable for passengers.
