2004 Hyundai Matrix 1.6

Summary:

Overall should be OK

Faults:

I am not sure any one can help me. the air condition temp dial need to be 90 percent to get cooled & chilling effect. if in the hot sun for an hour, I need to turn dial to 100 percent to achieve it while other cars I drive I only turn dial to 60 percent.

I keep getting metal clanking noise from front under carriage when ever I go over bumps & pot holes.

Mechanic done it and replace steering shaft & clipper, but still no use as the noise is still there.

Fuel consumption in town is about 18 to 20 sen / km while for highway is about 15 sen / km.

General Comments:

Overall is good buy for money.

2003 Hyundai Matrix 1.6 petrol

Summary:

A good bargain for the price

Faults:

My tail pipe muffler corrode at 14500km. The dealer change it without any question.

Door side penal gives noisy plastic sound whenever you want to open the door. Dealer said this is a car model characteristic problem, no solution to it.

General Comments:

Generally, I feel the car perform up to the mark as a decent family MPV.

I don't deny my car's pick up not as good as others, but it is enough for a family outing. These car seat five adult without problem. Space is excelent. Fuel consumption is OK it has done 12km/liter combine city and highway drive.

2003 Hyundai Matrix GLX 1.6

Summary:

Good Design bad Quality

Faults:

When I got the car the Auto Cruise system cannot function at all until now. I have unit it returned to the Agent responsible for installing after which they return it to me saying its not faulty and refer me back to Hyundai Service center. Then they said one pipe's missing and they have order.

Well, that's OK I guess cos its not a safety issue. Then another problem came my matrix engine rev up while stopping at a traffic light junction 2 weeks from the day I got the car. The car started to move on its own if I take my foot away from the brake pedal. I brought it back to the Service center then they found out that a rubber pipe was missing! Imagine that something controlling the engine could come off. I really got mad and they temporary substitute another saying they will order but until today not received yet.

Now almost 3 months problems above not solved yet and another problem came. There is a rattling noise coming from the front (don't know where) whenever I made a turn with uneven or bump corner. Sounds like some nuts loose inside the metal body. There is no noise when going through straight uneven surface.

That's terrible, I thought Hyundai is a good choice, but now I begin to suspect this Korean quality! Service is poor at the service center and technician cannot solve the problem.

General Comments:

Overall the design is good and its interior is spacious. The trunk is a bit too small for family luggage. Handling is good, but lack power. Tire is lousy and noisy, should have trade them in when I got the car.

I would not recommend this car to my friend.

You must understand that in Malaysia, there are two kind of Matrixs available. One is assembled in Malaysia and the other is imported as a completely built up unit. I have heard that there are some quality problems with those that are locally assembled. I drive a Matrix too and up to this day (touch wood) nothing has gone wrong, especially when you consider the fact that I have driven about 45000kms in just one year.

All auto cars will move if you are in 'D' mode when you stopped. so that's not a problem at all. Well I pity you for the part about the lousy service agents in malaysia...

I have a Matrix 1.6A, locally assembled for more than 6 months. No regret of having one. It is surprisingly spacious, easy to handle, with lots of storage compartments. There are few areas that can be improved, eg the fuel consumption is on the high side for city driving, a little more power is appreciated, and bad radio reception with the stock head unit.

2003 Hyundai Matrix 1.6

Summary:

Best for room space, ride comfort

Faults:

Slow pick up, under power and drag.

Fuel consumption not very good and seems it is commonly known, at OD OFF mode.

At highway, with OD ON, consumption is even worse with passenger load.

When in reverse and back to normal and change to drive mode, engine shakes a bit especially so in the morning.
