2007 Proton Savvy Manual 1.2

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

So far I have no complaints at all with the Savvy.

Only thing that happened is the car was 'jerking'. Took it to Proton Service; they said that the fuel pump sensor was giving a problem, so changed it, and now until today, no problem at all.

But I wanted to ask a question, where I need expert advice. My car is going for a 40,000 km major service. I went to a Proton Dealer Service center, and they are using Mobil Engine Engine Oil, whereby, Proton Service Branch is using Petronas Syntium Engine Oil. I am confused because do not know which Engine Oil is better for my car. I have asked people, they said Mobil is better. Can someone please advise me?

2007 Proton Savvy AMT H-Line 1.2 D4F 16v

Summary:

A malay proverb comes to mind "biawak hidup"

Faults:

I was looking for a safest car possible with my puny budget. This was the best at that time, but I have regretted it since then.

1) Overheat, fan failure, replaced under warranty. Difficult to start, Proton knew about it, but didn't change it until I came twice to the service center. A TDC sensor was bad, replaced under warranty

2) Steering airbag warning light lit on dashboard, replaced under warranty.

3) Replaced 3 times the power window switch under warranty.

4) Overheat, fan failure again. Note that the 1st was replaced new, no more warranty, I have to replace a new fan with my own money, all below 20k on the odometer.

5) Power steering switch is leaking, a typical problem with the Savvy according to a fan website. Proton wants RM800 to replace.

6) AMT problem, several times while in D, the system resets to N, and free gears on the road. Imagine while we're doing 90km/h, suddenly it goes to false N.

I didn't bring the car to the service center, but saw most owners of the AMT have the same problem, some are really bad. Proton wants 15K for the gearbox, as they are incompetent to fix the problem.

General Comments:

Nothing special about the Savvy, very typical, don't even get a remote switch for the rear power windows for the H line model.

2005 Proton Savvy 1.2

Summary:

Low installment, low consumption and low maintenance. El perfecto

Faults:

The car is difficult to start sometimes due to the TDC sensor. I manage to clean it myself.

General Comments:

I bought my Proton Savvy in 2009, and until today it's still running strong. Since my work involves traveling a lot, I was looking for a small car with low petrol consumption.

Initially I wanted to get a Perodua Viva. However the price was beyond my budget, and I wasn't really impressed by the quality of the body parts, which was too soft. I don't think I will survive if I get involved in an accident. Touch wood!

A lot of my friends advised me not to get a Savvy, but due to the low price and petrol consumption, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Savvy. And so far I have not regretted it. Even my friends who initially advised me not to get the Savvy were impressed; so much so one of them also bought a Savvy recently.

The petrol consumption is so bloody low that it's ridiculous. I have saved thousands in petrol and my installment is also extremely low (about RM200 a month). Really good value for money. Get a Savvy if you are looking for a cheap car with low petrol consumption.

Just a word of caution, don't send your car for servicing at a Proton service center. They are not good in handling the Savvy as its using Renault technology. You can service it at tan chong, or find a Renault specialist.
