2003 Proton Waja 1.6 gasoline

Summary:

Don't buy it!!!

Faults:

Power windows malfunction after 3 months.

General Comments:

Basically, this car is not too bad. Interior and dashboard are neat.

But when it comes to comfort, it really ruin everything. The engine is very unrefined. Noise level from the engine and tires are rather high, even at low speed!

The seats are hard especially the rear seats. Its also positioned slightly too upright, therefore it won't be comfortable for long trip. However, the interior space is rather decent for a 1.6 car. But seriously this car is not worth any of your money. So if you are planning to buy a car or change a car, please do not put Waja as ur choice. You will regret!

2003 Proton Waja 1.8X 1.8

Summary:

Comfortable and safe family car

Faults:

There is some slight squeaking in the dashboard when driving over uneven roads, but this only occurs 60% of the time. Turning the radio on eliminates the noise from being heard.

General Comments:

The 1.8 engine is not that much more powerful than the 1.6. From 0-100 kph there's virtually no difference in pickup. The difference comes in after the 100 kph mark, where the extra torque and capacity starts to pull the car away very sufficiently. High speed overtaking is a pleasure and cruising at 160-170 kph is effortless. I've only managed a top end of 190 kph, then the car stops pulling forward and maintains speed quite effortlessly.

Handling is the best point of this car. It will take corners without the feeling of being thrown and grips the road like its on rails! The brakes are excellent with EBD and ABS.

Safety is good and you will feel very safe and in control with this car. The car stops almost as fast as you can think and the dual airbags add to the safety measures, should anything unprecedented happen.

The 1.8X or premium has full leather seats which are very comfortable. I added in V-Kool tinting to add to the comfort and am very happy with the car.

Engine noise is quite high when accelerating hard, otherwise its fine.

2003 Proton Waja Auto 1.6 1.6

Summary:

Elegant and handles well

Faults:

Fortunately, nothing much.Driver's side windows jammed 3rd year of use. Handles well.Minimum problem. Service your car according to schedule and it will serve you well. It is recomemnded you read the instruction manual carefully before you drive the car.Don't rely on other people's opinions;especially those who do not own a Waja, but who knows someone who does.

General Comments:

Seats are comfortable, firm and good for posture. Plenty of leg room for driver and front passanger. Back seat passengers only complain about the air-con which is tilted towards the driver. For a car that is voted "the greenest car" in a first world country, it is certainly a great buy. The exterior slender, interior roomy and safe handling are features enough for anyone with the budget to put their money into this car.

Hi everyone.

Am from Singapore.

I bought a Waja 1.6 (M) on 2004.

Overall, the car performed well, handling and fuel economy.

Only problem so far - can't operate the rear right power window from driver's door console. OK if operated from passenger's console.

Happy with the car - absolutely.

Previously owned a 1.5GXL (M) from 2002-2004. Also happy with it.

I sympathise with owners who faced countless problems!

Someone told me the export versions have better quality and reliability?? I hope its not true, or else Malaysian owners are being shortchanged by their own national car company!!

Best wishes to fellow Proton owners!
