Summary:

I wish they still produced this car

Faults:

Too many electric fuel pumps.

Ignition module and coil pack.

Defective paint.

General Comments:

The 3800 engine is one of the finest motors ever produced, providing smooth power while getting great mileage.

Thanks to a split lower radiator hose, I once ran the car with almost no coolant, yet the engine survived, and, up until the time I gave the car to a friend, it used less than one half of a quart between oil changes (4,000 miles) - amazing, considering that the car has over 185,000 miles on the clock.

Ride is smooth, although aftermarket struts and springs firmed up the ride too much.

The car is plenty roomy, and it's quiet.

Most of all, this Buick couldn't have been easier to work on had I designed the car myself.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Have owned my 88 Electra since 1999. Have 240,000 miles on it. Runs great, uses no oil. Have replaced timing chain, but that is the only repair to the engine. 25mpg highway, 20 in the city.

Sensors have all gone over the years, not cheap, and the paint (silver) is fading fast. A/C replaced this summer, 17 years, not bad also.

Great riding car, thinking about spending $$ for new paint job.

I have owned my Electra for about 3 years. it has had two previous owners and now has 207,000 miles on it. the car has been stolen twice and each time I have had to replace the motor mount. the paint job is I horrible shape the windows are busted out and I start it with a screwdriver. recently I was rear-ended by two cars one being a SUV. i can't open the trunk and I have no tailites, but I'm glad to say I was the only one who drove away from the accident. the other cars being newer had to be towed. i can't believe the old girls still running and I feel extremely safe in it now that I have seen how its size and quality stand up to an accident.
