1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXI V6

Summary:

Great handling, good looking and worth the money!

Faults:

I just purchased my 98 Sebring Convertible this year 2003.

Rear driver floorboard floods when it rains.

When it rains and the floorboards are wet the radio becomes a little ill.

The stitching around the rear window is coming apart.

The power antenna went out. Only cost $30.00 to repair.

I haven't made any expensive repairs just yet.

General Comments:

The Sebring Convertible is a great looking car. I get many, many comments on this car, especially when the top is down. The rear passenger seats are roomy and comfortable.

Overall it's a great car. I owned a 99 Plymouth Breeze, that was wrecked. It was leaking oil at 50,000 miles. I think a 98 Sebring Convertible at 80,000 + miles still running and looking good with no under the hood problems is a plus for me. If I had to buy another 98 Sebring, I would. I love this car!

1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible LXI 2.2L?

Summary:

Excellent ride and value

Faults:

Broken fuel line (minor; existed when I bought the car used) ; tail light burned out; replaced brakes; all minor wear and tear.

General Comments:

This car has been excellent. I'm now in the market for a newer one.

It handles great. It has plenty of off-the-line pep, which is especially important for city driving if you're a bit impatient, which I am.

The ride is a bit stiff, but I've never been a fan of the 'no-road-feel' type of car. If you're looking for something that's a bit sporty, you have to expect some feel of the road.

The cab forward design makes the car "look" fast all the time.

One of the best features, in my opinion, is the back seat. It's tough to find a mid-priced American made convertible with a real back seat. This one has more room than its competitors (e.g., Mustang convertible and a few others). Very nice if you have to haul 4 people around.

The infinity stereo really is nice. I haven't had any problems with the leather seats. They look as new as when I got it. The car is parked in parking garages all the time, however, so I imagine the sun would do some damage if I regularly parked outside.

Thus far, I've done normal maintenance and that's about it. I gave it a minor tune-up at 55,000, and some new brake pads, and those have been the single most expensive maintenance items.

The car is very fun to drive, in my opinion, and it's a great convertible if you occasionally have more than one passenger, or just need a bit of extra room for groceries.

1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXi Limited 2.5 V6

Summary:

Classy Looking Car with Intermittent Problems

Faults:

I replaced tires and brakes at 36,000 miles. Leather on seats are very worn and cheap looking. Seems like cheap leather. Replaced alternator at 50,000 miles. Water build up in space of rear tire well while driving in a major storm. It leaked into my car through the rear passenger radio speaker and onto rear and front passenger floor. In turn it fried my sub-woofer and amplifier. Zapped out my system completely! The cause was "a clogged rear wheel well drainage system"??? Once car dried out it worked again with some static problems intermittently. Brakes squeal since I've owned the car, even after replacement.

General Comments:

Get tons of compliments on the look of the car with the gold package, especially at night.

Convertible is awesome.

Killer (Infinity) stereo until problem with water leakage.

Rear window and rear view mirrors don't allow enough view to drive safely.

Brakes drive me nuts until heated up.

Interior leather cheap looking with lots of cracking.

1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXI

Summary:

A sharp and sporty looking car

Faults:

The rear window defroster has never worked.

I had problems with the car blowing fuses when starting for a couple of months. After the local Chrysler dealer had it back about 3 times he rebuilt the starter and to date hasn't happened any more.

The driver side window whistles as you drive.

General Comments:

This is a beautiful car. I liked the appearance from the day I saw it. I had it painted once in black cherry pearl and it is really sharp looking. I get a lot of compliments about this car.

I wish the wheels weren't two tone in the gold and silver.
