Faults:

Engine problems in 1999.

Transmission replaced while under warranty.

Currently restoring. Replacing anything that requires maintenance.

The worst thing is the antilock brake system. Hard to find and nasty to replace. Labor to replace in the 2015 market was almost $1000. There are articles on replacing the ABS with standard power brakes, but this must be disclosed to insurance companies, which might make it harder to insure.

General Comments:

In 1989 this car performed extremely well relative to other available cars. 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. The Maserati interior is beautiful. Came with removable hard top with opera glass windows and a soft top.

With the stock Maserati engine and Getrag transmission, it was deceptively quick. With an upgraded computer, custom exhaust and bigger turbo, it will give many 2015 cars that are considered fast, i.e. Mustang GT or Cadillac CTS-V, a run for their money.

The seats are like sitting in a La-Z-Boy chair. This car is unique and unlike any other car. One must drive one (with the performance engine and manual transmission to really appreciate it). The other engines can be modified fairly easily to perform quite well.

Faults:

Odometer - Gear broke. Easy to replace.

General Comments:

The car is 25 years old, but it has aged well. I am the 2nd owner. The previous owner had taken good care of the vehicle.

The lines on the car are timeless and classy for the joint badge it wears. It is a car that has beauty with the hard top on or off. It still provides timeless comfort and luxury of a flagship car. It is the chance for a person to have an Italian exotic on a beer budget.

This is a real sleeper, and will come to be more appreciated in the future.

Faults:

ABS electrical relay burned out (replaced).

Throttle body sensor broke (replaced).

General Comments:

Despite the insults from the self styled experts about its pedigree, this is a fun car to drive, and people like its looks. It handles well in tight turns, and has decent acceleration for a 4 cylinder (no performance enhancements -- yet).

Got mine while stationed in Europe. Drove it throughout Germany (at autobahn speeds), toured the French wine country in Alsace-Lorraine, visited Liechtenstein, and even climbed the Susten, Grimsel, and Furka Passes in Switzerland.

Handling was great in all types of weather and road conditions. The seating is comfortable for long drives, and the sound system is very good.

This car isn't perfect, however, as there are design/build flaws:

* The hard top roof leaks in the rain at the top of the windshield pillars.

* The opera windows are permanently fogged, and...

* Some of the exterior trim was not well fitted.

Still, even though I was in Stuttgart, which is home to a good portion of the German auto industry, the reactions when people saw it in the street were uniformly positive, if a bit puzzled, since no one had ever heard of it before.

All in all, a real sleeper of a classic.
