2005 GMC Canyon SLE Z71 3.5 Liter 220 Horsepower

Summary:

Great truck to own

Faults:

Rattle from glove compartment when traveling above 25 MPH. Truck is at dealer right now getting that fixed.

General Comments:

GM really did their homework on this one as far as a five cylinder engine put into a truck. Can't wait to see if GM would stick a incline six in these trucks in the future, but the five does well, it has the power of the six, but the fuel efficiency of a 4 cylinder. I love this truck. Handles well when cornering, especially for a truck. Temperature stays at one point (middle) even with temperatures above 110 degrees out here in AZ, well done. Bought a K&N performence filter, does better on intake. I am getting about 20 MPG in city and about 24 MPG in highway so fuel efficiency here is great for a truck. The 4X4 is flawless.

2005 GMC Canyon SLE 3.5L

Summary:

This vehicle does all that I ask cheaper than I expected

Faults:

No problems, which is good because I don't like dealing with dealerships.

General Comments:

I have the 4x4 extended cab, 3.5L and 4spd auto. I really like this vehicle. Exceptional mileage, power is good, transmission shifts to smoothly for my preferences, but if you hold the throttle wide open it shifts nicely. I like the thinking behind the headlights and turn signal positioning.

I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who wants a economical, trouble free and low maintenance small pick up.

2005 GMC Canyon sle extended cab 4x4 z71 l5

Summary:

Everything else is great with the canyon

Faults:

Nothing just purchased.

General Comments:

Does anyone notice that the brake seems to be a bit too far to the left? I have longer legs, but I cannot apply pressure evenly to the brake peddle, it is a bit awkward to reach over too much when braking, Its like both brake and gas needs to be moved a little to the right, I actually can get a sight stiffness in my knee. It makes me not like the truck and I do not want to sell.

You should notice these things during the testdrive. Otherwise, try sitting in different positions or to one side or the other.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't realize the disomfort until driving in it after about a 100 miles or so.

Yeah, I noticed when drive my upper right leg gets sore when driving for a while, seems like this a flaw GM didn't catch. Should be reported to GM.

I put a cushion I made on the floor so I could rest my right leg on and it helps when cruising on the gas pedal. but the brake is definitely a bit too far toward the center for my liking.

2005 GMC Canyon SLE Extended Cab 3.5 Inline 5

Summary:

Excellent daily driver and off roader!

Faults:

Not much has gone wrong, a few annoying things though. The Radio rarely doesn't turn off completely when you open the door, it turns off then on then off again. And the passenger vent was squeaky on bumps in the road. Fixable with removing it and lubricating the squeaky joint.

General Comments:

This is a great vehicle. It is the Z-71 4x4 extended cab model.

The tires aren't the best that I have ever used, but sufficient in daily driving and some off roading. The 4wd function is excellent. I was able to get out of some rough stuff with ease. And the truck does come with the G80 Lockable Differential gears, so it helps with things like ice even with the 2wd version.

The gas mileage is terrific on the In line-5. When I had it loaded down with camping gear, I was still able to get about 24mpg on the highway and around 19mpg in the mountains. I also had the bed loaded down at a different time with about 900lbs of concrete, and it drove without hiccups and the engine power was still responsive. The tail-gate can also be in 3 positions. Closed, Partly Opened or closed, you can open it in anyway that will accommodate the cargo (like partially for 4x8 plywood sheets).

The ride cannot be considered anything, but a truck. But that is how I like it, I got the Z-71 not only for the higher stance, but I like the truck like ride.

The seats are good, but not a long haul for the people on the Extended Cab seats. I didn't need the extra space that the Crew Cab had, but needed more cab space then the Regular Cab. Oddly enough the back seats accommodate a childes seats quite well with the anchors built into the truck.

Like I said, I am very happy with this truck. It exceeded my expectations especially in snow and off roading. With the deals going on, it makes it a great value for a nice capable truck.
