1998 Lexus LS 400 4.0 1UZ-FE

Summary:

One of the finest cars on the road

Faults:

Original serpentine belt started to make noise at 135,000 miles (my fault for not replacing it earlier).

Had to have the front rotors turned at 140,000.

General Comments:

The LS400 is in my opinion one of the finest cars in the world. I picked mine up back in early 2004 with 120,000, it looked great and had all of the options you could possibly want including air suspension.

The car is amazingly quiet with little road noise or wind noise.

The LS400's 4.0 liter is very quick off the line and has plenty of passing power.

Braking is amazingly strong for such a large car.

Handling is good, but not sporty, body lean is evident, but TEMS (Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension) helps that a bit.

The Interior is laid out nicely and is of very high quality materials, the instrument cluster is very clear and easy to read, and radio and climate controls work well. The leather is durable and very soft at the same time.

Overall this is one great car, this was my second LS400 and I am now Hooked on Lexus.

1998 Lexus LS 400 4.0 DOHC V*

Summary:

One of the best cars on the road

Faults:

Hood gas struts weak, replaced under warranty.

Nothing else.

General Comments:

Definitely the best car I've ever owned.

The car gets 26mpg cruising a 75 mph, even better at lower speed.

Extremely smooth and quiet.

Transmission and engine are gems.

Sneaky fast, it's so composed doing it that it comes as a shock to see how quickly and fast it can move.

The brakes are very powerful and smooth.

While no sports car, it does handle very well for a car its size and type. Larger tires would probably make it even better.

The Nakamichi stereo is outstanding, great sound and depth.

I basically have nothing negative to say about it.

1998 Lexus LS 400 Platinum 4.0 V8

Summary:

Can't be beat for the money

Faults:

The Car has only been to the dealer for scheduled maintenance. This car is a very good choice.

General Comments:

I owned a 93 LS 400. It was totaled in an accident with 168000 miles on it. I was not planning on replacing it soon.

The (newer) car is such a dream. You will be impressed by the interior upgrades, wood trim, Nakamichi stereo.

I was all smiles the first time I drove it at night and recognized the self leveling HID headlamps.

The fuel economy is excellent for a 8 cylinder automobile.

1998 Lexus LS 400

Summary:

Everything you ever needed or wanted in a car.

Faults:

The car has front right strut noise that has not been able to be diagnosed correctly.

General Comments:

Lexus makes the best car out there for the money.

The dependability and quality are truly exceptional.

This is my fourth Lexus and I will stick with Lexus for life.

The Navigational system has some bugs, but over all quality ranks 8 out of 10.

Stereo system truly rocks!

The interior is very comfortable including velvet soft leather through out.

Body is long and sleek. I always get looks when I am in my car. This car is absolutely gorgeous. One notices that a lot of thought and care was put into the design of the 1998 LS400.
