2000 Lexus RX 300

Summary:

Sell fast and buy something else

Faults:

Transmission is starting to fail. Took it to Aamco and the transmission fluid is black. Checked 20,000 miles ago and it was OK. Already replaced the rear main seal at $1800. Looking at $2500 plus for a rebuild.

General Comments:

Unbelievable poor quality in major components of this RX300 model. Lexus should be ashamed.

That's your experience - our experience with the RX 300 has been very positive - well made, comfortable & reliable at 118,000 miles.

2000 Lexus RX 300

Summary:

Good car if you can take care of it

Faults:

This car originally had a variety of minor issues including fuel injectors and LCD panel on the dash that had to be replaced, along with brakes every 15-20K miles.

The most recent problems (82K miles) may explain why trannies fail. The trans cooler was contaminated with engine coolant as the two coolers can tend to leak into one another. This had to be repaired by my mechanic, who was pretty observant to find a problem like this.

Also, this car had a main engine gasket leak at 75K miles, which had to be repaired. Either one of these could cause premature trannie failure if not repaired in time.

General Comments:

Generally a good car, with very expensive and somewhat incompetent dealerships.

Find a good private mechanic and stick with them. They will save you a lot of money in the long run.

2000 Lexus RX 300

Faults:

My Lexus 2000 RX300 had been running great until now. I bought my used car in 2003. It was a Certified car. Today I drove it for about an hour no service lights came on, no warnings. It started skipping and slowing down before it completely stopped on me. I have about 110,000 miles on it. Before I bought my car I was told that I had nothing to worry about as long as I got my services done. Now my car is sitting in my yard. I had to call a tow company to come get it. Can someone tell me what this could possibly be?

2000 Lexus RX 300

Summary:

If the ride matched the quality I'd buy again, but I haven't seen it

Faults:

Air conditioning compressor had to be replaced.

Motor to back wiper had to be replaced.

Key broke twice!!

Inside carpet molding on trunk door came loose.

Molding around the right headlight came loose.

General Comments:

The car rides good, but the quality just isn't there.

It's ridiculous to have to pay 300.00 to replace a key that was designed poorly.

I've had at least 7 American made cars, and never had to replace a windshield wiper motor!

Broken molding on trunk and around headlights were never experienced with my Ford or GM cars.

2000 Lexus RX 300 3.6L V6

Summary:

Poor choice of a car, but better than the F-150

Faults:

The cup holder: It failed to function from the start, and they would not fix it or even offer a discount on the replacement.

The electronic power antenna: It started to fail at 28K, and I had them "fix it" at every service interval. It is a piece of junk and they never replaced or repaired it, they just cleaned it until the warranty was out.

The seat belts: They do not retract correctly, and that caused damage to the door panels.

The power windows: they have been adjusted at least 3 times, but sometimes they still go down on their own when they get to the top of the frame.

The luggage net: The clips holding the net biodegraded in under a year.

The luggage rack: The paint went away at only 35K miles. They repainted it, but...

The luggage rack: (again) It cannot hold more than 15 to 20 pounds; they said like one pair of skis or one snow board.

The battery: It failed at 33 K miles, and they replaced it, but...

The transmission: This car's transmission failed at 60K. Thank God I bought the extended warranty.

The driver side sun visor: The visor is useless, as it will not stay in place in the down position against the windshield. They want $250 bucks to fix it.

The front rotors: The dealer tried to charge me for new rotors only 10K miles after its first brake job. I got them to do the job for free, but they tried to steal 500 bucks from me.

The wiring is poor as the lights fail to come on all the time. If I smack the front left fender, the headlight will come on and work for a week then... try it again. The light that says the doors are opened also is bad, and the lighting fail light failed too.

The wind noise is very loud.

There are more items to list, but I am running out of time.

General Comments:

This car is a piece of... Well you get the idea.

Do not ever buy one of these vehicles unless you have money to throw away. I sure wish I had bought the Honda.

I haven't had any of these problems except a small oil leak starting around 70k.
