1995 Mazda 626 LX 2.0 liter V6

Summary:

A conservative looking fun sedan

Faults:

First, there is a small oil leak, which occurred at about 50,000 miles. The leak is almost insignificant that some mechanics don't even see it. Also my air-conditioning and power steering belt crack and cost about $120 to fix. This occurred at about 80,000 miles.

General Comments:

The car is extremely reliable and has very low maintenance cost.

The car is a blast to drive and performs great. The V6 is decently powerful and handling is outstanding.

The car is very conservative looking. But with all options it is very comfortable. It has a ton of cabin and trunk room. It could easily fit 4 adults comfortably.

1995 Mazda 626 LX 2.0L 4 cylinder DOHC

Summary:

Terrible car - especially the transmission

Faults:

The first problem was the vibration throughout the car during stops while in gear (worse with A/C on). This was problem that Mazda indicated on a service bulletin. Dealer still could not fix.

Struts were replaced at 45000 miles.

First transmission failed at 75000 miles, the second failed at 138000, the third failed (according to the new owner) at 148000. Two Mazda dealerships indicated that the transmissions were a very big problem (pretty bad when the dealers admit to a problem like this).

Valves have been clicking since early on.

Brakes had to be replaced almost yearly.

The car would not stay aligned.

There is quite a bit more, but you get the picture!

General Comments:

Mazda has a serious problem with this transmission.

I have a 99 626. At 79000 my transmission went out also. The dealer doesn't want to fix the car. I will be going to my lawyer to see what can be done. Could you email me at ebony29052@aol.com and tell me more.

Thanks.

I have a 95 Mazda 626 and the transmission has gone out with only 74,000 miles on it. The transmission was rebuilt for $2077 and the overdrive light will not go off and it jerks when it pulls off from first gear. I took it back to the transmission company and they said it is a sensor problem. I have had the car a year and a half, and it is having major problems. I will never buy another Mazda in my life.

1995 Mazda 626 LX 2.0L 4-cyl DOHC

Summary:

A nice family sedan, but with little performance and questionable reliability

Faults:

1. Hydraulic cam lifters are leaking, producing a knocking noise when the engine is warmed up.

General Comments:

2 main complaints: leaking problem of the hydraulic cam lifters, and sluggish performance because of the only 118-hp 2.0L engine mated with an automatic transmission.

Apart from the problems, I like the car. The interior has a quality feel, it's feature-rich (alarm, folding rear-seat, swinging vents and comfortable seats).

The reviewer seems to be a born pamperer of his/her things.
