2009 Mazda CX-7 Sport 2.7 turbo

Summary:

A lot of bang for the buck

Faults:

No issues to date.

General Comments:

Car fun to drive - responsive.

However, too much road noise, louder inside on the highway than I think it should be.

Back seat is small.

Love the double decker dash.

Hate the angled windshield - think it looks tacky from the outside, and is hard to clean.

2007 Mazda CX-7 Touring AWD 2.3 DISI turbo

Summary:

I loved this car, but simply didn't want to keep up with the cost

Faults:

A/C performance was mediocre. It would get the job done, but if it was really hot outside, the AC took a long time to cool the vehicle.

The check engine light would go on and off, reading an error code that said "evap fuel system leak," which basically meant the car was detecting a minor leak in the evaporation system of the fuel. Most people will say "it means the gas cap is loose", but I would consistently get the light over the span of 3 months.

Gas mileage.

Lots of interior noise when driving.

The paneling on the dash and doors was cheap.

General Comments:

This car is amazing! In the 10,000 miles I put on this crossover, it never let me down. It is very dependable in that right. Also, the car is very comfortable -- I had leather seats with the seat warmers. This car was VERY luxurious for a lower end vehicle -- I had the technology package.

I loved all the features it had: 10 airbags, GPS/6-disc changer, comfortable leather seats, seat heaters, slap-stick automatic, lots of power!, all-wheel drive, sunroof, Bose sound system, and a spacious interior. I was absolutely enamored with all these features. But, ultimately I traded the car in because of the cost. The car payment NOR the insurance was the problem, it was the gas mileage. I track my MPG every time I fill up, and the best I ever got in the city was 14 mpg (terrible!!!). The best I ever got on the interstate was 21 mpg. On average, my city mileage was about 12.5 to 13 mpg.

The fact that it only used 93 octane didn't help anything, but in one month (without a road trip or travelling) I spent 293 dollars in gas and that was when I told myself "enough is enough." I'm sure a lot of you get MUCH better gas mileage out of this, but I live in Fort Bragg, NC and the city driving is terrible here. It usually takes me 12 minutes to get to work (which is only 3 miles from my house) -- if that helps you picture how crappy the traffic/stop lights are here. Quite literally, my colleagues who drove F-150s were getting better city mileage than I was with a 4 cylinder. So, I decided to trade it in for something more cost efficient.

Pros:

Features.

Power (turbo).

Speed.

Luxury.

Cost of the vehicle.

Cargo/seating space.

The look of the vehicle.

Cons:

Noise.

Air conditioning.

Gas mileage (the straw that broke the camel's back).

93 Octane only.

21 MPGs not that bad for a turbo AWD with heated seats and 10 airbags, though if you want good MPG I suggest a compact FWD.

Your CX-7 may have had a 4 cylinder but with AWD and all of those features it sounds like it'd be pretty heavy, and weight will reduce your MPG.

My baby

Faults:

None so far.

General Comments:

This car is easy and fun to drive.

It drives like a sport car.

Very fast and hard to notice you speed up.

Good navigation and comfortable seats.

The car's touches (vanities, dashboard, lighting) feel very expensive and are very nice.

Wonderful handling.

It's interesting! I really loved the style of this car, but the first time I went for a test drive I felt it was too cheap in materials. Just take the wheel and you feel the cheap plastic (I just drive a Sonata, not a luxury car and my bar is not that high). Also I found it too noisy in the cabin...

Anyway, if you like your car, it's for you. Enjoy it :)

The Mazda interior is much nicer than equally priced competitors. It is also much sportier and agile than the others; the road noise is not an issue, it is tire dependent.
