General Comments:

The best performance value ever made.

1988 Mazda MX6 DX 2.2

Summary:

Solid

Faults:

Not until the car had 190,000 did I need to do any major repairs. I put a new air conditioner, radiator, and clutch (195,444) after near 16 years of ownership... not bad.

General Comments:

I'm a retired Federal Agent and use the car now to do contact work... I only wish they made them like they did in 1987. I. m on my 18th year with this car and will continue to drive it. I keep the title in the glove box because when it does stop on me I will walk away and recall what a great ride it was for me. It was the most dependable car I have ever owned..

1988 Mazda MX6 GT 2.2 turbo

Summary:

This car is great all around, fast, great handling, just pure fun

Faults:

It burns a bit of oil. about 1 liter every 2 weeks or so.

One of the exhaust manifold studs broke off in the head. As a result I am losing exhaust and therefore boost.

One time the turbo tubing came off of the intake while I was driving. All I had to do was pull over and put it back on, not a big deal.

General Comments:

I love this car, I am in high school and I drive it quite hard.

It is very fast and the electronic adjustable suspension is very cool. It makes a big difference.

This car seems to have a lot of cool gagets that I have never seen on another car before.

The seats inside are very comfortable. I am 6'2" and I seem to fit somehow! The backseat is supposedly kind of tight fitting.

I was skeptical before I bought this car, but now that I have owned it for a year, it was a very good purchase.

1988 Mazda MX6 LX non-turbo

Summary:

One import I'm not ashamed to drive

Faults:

Power steering pump, water pump, a/c, timing belt, all at around 215,000 miles.

Window motors are getting a little weak.

General Comments:

I bought this car for $400 after it was parked for two years.

This car still has original clutch.

I'm 6'4" 300+ have plenty of room even without a sunroof.

Even at 15yrs old, it will still outrun most of these kids in their new imports.

1988 Mazda MX6 GT 2.2 turbo

Summary:

Responsive, reliable, rocket!

Faults:

Replaced both front axles after the boots cracked (150,000 k).

Replaced alternator twice.

Rear wheel wells beginning to rust (2001). Not bad for a Japanese car that is 14 years old.

Power antenna sounds likes it's working, but doesn't actually move.

General Comments:

Very good on gas if you drive like Dr. Jekyll... not bad on gas when Mr. Hyde comes out to play.

Very quick and responsive, but watch out for the torque steer when the turbo kicks in.

I love this car... it is the best I have ever owned. At 5'9" it fits me just right, but 6 foot (plus) passengers request I open the sun roof.

1988 Mazda MX6 GT 2.2 litre turbo

Summary:

An incredible car that has unbelievable potential

Faults:

The throttle body boot ripped and needed replacing at around 102000 kilometres.

Spoiler started to rust out right where it is bolted to the car on the passenger side.

Alternator went at around 104000 kilometres.

General Comments:

This car is very reliable. It is my first car, but for a 13 year old car, she is still running great!!

Although I don't find this car very economical on gas. I only get about 350 kilometres on a full tank, 400 kilometres max!!

Otherwise, this car is a powerful little piece of machinery. Only 145 horsepower, but the torque makes up for it. Do some little performance mods and the car will do wonders for you.

1988 Mazda MX6 GT 2.0 turbo

Summary:

A good fun, economical performance vehicle

Faults:

Rear quarter panels have been rusting badly in last 2 years.

Hood leading edge rusted and replaced at 120000 km.

Parking brake cable seized in its sleeve twice due to road spray.

Driver's seat tilt mechanism pin sheared.

Exhaust system aft of the converter has been replaced 3 times.

General Comments:

A fun car to drive, especially with manual transmission.

Good pick-up, especially when the revs are above 3000.

The last of the real MX6's with an engine and transmission that loves to be worked.

Punch the throttle to 6000rpm in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and it takes off like a scalded rabbit.

You have to drive this car and not sit back and be a passenger. It needs to be kept pointing in the correct direction.
