1989 Mazda MX6

Summary:

Loud n proud

Faults:

This was only purchased for 400 dollars, and I have beat the crap out of it, but I had to fix a half shaft and master cylinder, brakes, wheel bearing, and that was about it. Oh, and a tie rod and ball joint.

But I recently came upon one brought into a junkyard that I visit almost daily, and it was the same year model, but this one was a turbo automatic, but the one I have is non turbo, but manual, so I'm dropping that and installing the 2.2 turbo. This motor only has 127 thousand miles, and this car had no dings or dents; like it came straight from the manufacturer or an auction.

This car is great on gas, and is so much fun to drive, even though I'm 6'9". This car is great!!!

1989 Mazda MX6 LX 2.2L 12 valve

Summary:

One of the best I've owned

Faults:

All has happened in one year, although the car is in perfect condition (no rust or rot so far), and is 21 years old.

Bought for 84 year old lady that bought new and could not drive any more for the sum of 500 dollars (yes, I stole this car). Could have sold it the next day for 2800 dollars. Had a friend come to my house with money in hand, and wanted to buy it then and there.

OK, had to replace right rear wheel bearing for 75.00.

Had to replace right side CV axle; total involved was 140 dollars.

Performance exhaust for 260 dollars.

Alternator 85.00 dollars. And tranny mount, and outer CV shaft seals on transmission.

This car runs perfect and emissions are better than a new car (really have paper work to prove it).

I tune this car once a year myself (22 plus years mechanic) the right way.

All in all, this car is one of the best I've owned, and I'm a hard core Chevy guy.

General Comments:

Performance exhaust, intake to breathe better, and aftermarket 19 inch wheels and tires.

Been to Daytona fla. Drove up and back and to Orange County choppers in New York. This is my every day daily driver (very dependable).

1989 Mazda MX6 GT 2.3 turbo

Summary:

My all time favorite

Faults:

Disc brakes replaced.

General Comments:

Car was lady driven and stored inside. I saw in garage last year and fell in car love.

It was in beautiful condition and all it needed was a battery.

67,000 kilometers and runs like new.

The GT emblem on the side is deceiving. This car is sleepy quick.

1989 Mazda MX6

Summary:

This is an economical, reliable, easy to work on, great car

Faults:

In the last 12 months the valves started ticking. The radiator got a hole. The clutch got really worn and sometimes the pedal sticks.

General Comments:

Great car. In 8 years of ownership I only had to replace the alternator and starter, all work done by myself. The A/C had lost the free on about three years ago, but I never had it repaired. I thought first of selling it since I also own a 1970 Mercedes 250 C and a recently acquired 2000 Mercedes E 320, but I'm now seriously considering to rebuild whatever is necessary and keep this great car.

1989 Mazda MX6 GT 2.2 turbo

Summary:

Good as sliced bread

Faults:

Drive axles, alternator, battery, window switches, timing belt, and water pump.

Just minor problems that come with age.

General Comments:

This has been the best car I ever owned. If I could buy a new one I would. Runs like a scalded cat on regular and gets 29-30 mpg on freeway. No engine or transmission problems. It is extremely comfortable for me even on long trips. Been in 2 accidents, patched up and kept on going. Looks pretty tough, but it truly is the Energiser Bunny. Am looking for another one with a better body, but they are hard to find. My advice is if you see one in pretty good shape, BUY IT. Better yet let me know about it and I'll buy it.

If you want to keep enjoying your car, NEVER put in regular gas, or if you like the regular gas, it's good to buy some american car from the 80s.

Regards.
