1992 Mazda Protege DX 1.8

Summary:

The little Protege that could

Faults:

The seat-belt light is almost always on and chirping, but this is a minor inconvience.

General Comments:

The horsepower on this car has got to be under-rated. I have never had a problem reaching freeway speeds and have raced cars that should have beat me, but didn't.

This car has spent most of her 9 years parked in a driveway or parking lot, and the finish is impeccable.

1992 Mazda Protege LX 1.8 Liter DOHC

Summary:

A reliable high performance, high mileage car

Faults:

Both CV joint boots replaced.

Backup light switch on transmission replaced.

Air conditioning compressor replaced.

General Comments:

This is a great car if you're looking for something that is fast, handles great and still gets 30mpg. It has a lot of power for its size. Rated at 125 HP, this car has some "get up and go" if you need it.

This car is very reliable... and it's paid for!

1992 Mazda Protege DX

Faults:

After 5 years the radiator rusted out and had to be replaced, but probably because I live in a highly snowy area with lots of salt on the roads. The brakes had to be done at about 100K miles. I just had the timing belt and others replaced at 110K.

General Comments:

Great car. I don't know about the newer years but this 92 has served me very well at a very good price. I get about 38 mpg highway, plenty of room, zip, and comfort. I suggest it highly.

I bought my 1992 Mazda Protege new and it is the best car I have ever owned.

The only repair is the boot sleeve.

I have 96,000 kilometres and am about to replace the timing belt.

My 1992 Mazda Protege DX was my first car, I got it a year ago from my cousin in Baltimore Maryland. I live in North Carolina, So I had to drive it there I've only had it a year and 3 months. It had 125k miles when I got it and now it has 190k miles. I'm really proud of it. I recently put some 17 in rims on it and now it looks even better. I need to get my wheel bearings in the back redone, but other than that I love my car. To anyone who is thinking of getting rid of a good protege, think again.
