2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT V6

Summary:

Worth every penny!

Faults:

Since the vehicle is brand new to me, nothing has gone wrong. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

General Comments:

This car has some definite speed to it. You barely step on the pedal and it's off like you were in the Indy 500.

The sleek lok on this model is a definite plus. I must say I do get some looks when driving down the road.

Many upgardes available if you want to change the look of your model. Plenty of packages that will turn you on!

All in all, this vehicle has made me very happy and I am very thrilled with my new purchase. Go Eclipse...

It's good to hear someone speak so proudly of there Eclipse. I happen to own a 2000 Eclipse GT, and I have no complaints, besides general mechanical problems of car in that price range and class. It's unreal how fast the car takes off from sitting at a stand still. All can say is my eclipse comes in handy when running a little late for work.

2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.4L

Summary:

Good all-around sport coupe

Faults:

The sunroof started to hang up when opening. The dealership has attempted to repair, but the problem has occured twice since. Still an ongoing issue.

Recall for a potential steering gear issue, my vehicle was not affected.

One radiator hose started to leak, a new hose clamp fixed the issue.

Rear parcel cover hinge separated, warranty replaced.

Five front wheel studs have been replaced due to breaking when dealer rotated the tires. Not sure why, dealer covered the repair.

General Comments:

Despite a few issues I really like this car.

It handles well, but I would not put it on par with a sports car like the Mazda Miata.

The 4 cylinder (GS) model when coupled with the 5 speed performs better than expected while getting 30+ miles per gallon on the highway.

On the downside rear vision is limited and rear side vision has a fairly large blind spot.

2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS

Summary:

A high value sporty car, but watch your blind spot

Faults:

Glove compartment rattles when I drive over bumps.

My car had one recall to check the steering linkage. Dealer inspection showed no problems with my car.

No serious problems.

General Comments:

My car drives nice and has good pickup for a four cylinder. Gas mileage has been nice.

Steering is very responsive. Small movements of the steering wheel will turn the car quickly. I love driving down winding mountain roads here in San Diego. My car was also a nice ride for the 5 hour trip from San Diego to Las Vegas and had good back support for the drive.

Braking is sharp and steady.

The manual shifter is a little clunky and could be better.

Road noise is a little loud, but not too much of a problem.

There is little side protection from getting door dings from other drivers in a small parking lot. My car has several in only 2 years of driving.

I am 6'1 and the inside is a little tight, but OK.

I also regret getting a center console with the cup holders right behind the manual shifter, they a really useless for drinks. If they were right below the stereo there would be no problems.

The only big concern I have is the very small triangular windows at the rear comers. There is very little visibility if I am changing lanes. This is even more of a problem if the headrest is in the top position. My girlfriend is 5'2 and this is also a problem for her.

Despite all the little nit-picks I have listed I would gladly recommend someone buying the car.

I agree with the problem of blind spots. I own the 2000 RS and a blind spot I found immediately after purchasing the car new was the left hand side front window post. Since I drive on a lot of curve roads here in PR it is a major problem. Other than that, the car is cool and I have no major complaints...
