2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT 3.0 V6

Summary:

Bang for the buck, sexiest convertible with some balls

Faults:

Nothing major. Two annoyances.

1. Doors are not flush with the body. Need to take it to the dealer before 36,000 miles.

2. After a rain or car wash, the windows have a mildew smell when they are rolled down. After a little research, found out that the dealer will replace the weather strips with anti-fungal ones.

Probably will take care of these two annoyances soon.

General Comments:

Joy to drive, especially with the power top down. One performance mod performed, a cold air intake that adds about 9 HP to the wheel. AEM manufactures the intake and it sounds sweet above 3500 RPM.

Have not taken the car over 120, have read on the web that some people have taken it over 145. Will beat just about anything that pulls up next to you and definitely anything in its class. Honda eater. Look out for Type R Integras.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT 3.0 V6

Summary:

Cool design and a good price, you can't go wrong

Faults:

Alignment is off, because of it there's a lot of tire noise. Problem from the first week of ownership.

SV joints are starting to break so they make too much noise when I accelerate or brake hard. Hopefully it's still covered under warranty and they'll fix it with no problems. These are the kind of problems you run into for having front wheel drive.

The suspension is definitely not for city driving.

General Comments:

This car handles real well and it is a lot of fun to drive.

The cabin noise, even with the top down, is bearable so you can have a conversation even at 45mph.

Some changes that I've made that improve this driving experience are wider tires and a different suspension. Soon to come is a small turbo charger. That should get things really moving in the right direction.

A very fast car good looking car

Faults:

The restraint system light would not go off.

Back left speaker didn't work (don't know why).

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

Summary:

Great car for the $$$$$

Faults:

The driver's door does not shut flush with the body. Have not taken it in for repair yet.

The cloth on the interior of the top rides up exposing the mechanics of the top above the passenger door. Haven't had in yet to repair.

General Comments:

I test-drove the GS and the GT. I bought the GT. Overall I love the car!

I was disappointed that Mitsubishi did not make safety features such as anti-lock braking and traction at the very least a stand-alone option. They were only offered in a package deal that included leather seats, premium sound and some other add-ons.

For the price you aren't going to get a better looking convertible.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT V-6

Summary:

Great performance for a reasonable price

Faults:

Not one single problem!

General Comments:

The interior wraps around you.

Easy to drive. Easy to take off in with a standard transmission.

Great performance for a 6 cylinder. Good acceleration, and it has enough power that it will spin its wheels if you leave hard.

Good gas mileage. I currently get about 26 miles to the gallon, and that's with me still romping on it some.

Exhaust is quiet, but still sounds good when you accelerate.

Not much road noise.

The fact that it has a back seat helps a little on the insurance, but it is rather small. I was able to fit three people back there though, even though it is only made for two.

Takes corners great. We took several 20 MPH curves at about 60 or 65 (just testing it out).

I receive lots of comments about how nice it is from people of all ages. Teens think it's neat looking, and even several older (75 or so) ladies commented on it. It appeals to all ages.

The seats are super comfortable, and the power seats adjust in about 8 different ways.

Summary:

If driven correctly it will beat just about any car in its class and a few that aren't

Faults:

Not a single fault as of yet and I don't expect any.

General Comments:

What can I say, I love this car. I think it's the best looking car for under $30,000 and the best buy for under $25,000. Good performance and handling and cool looking interior. Great stock sound system with the premium package and cool sunroof.

A 2001 GTP 2 door started out at less than 25,000 dollars, and it would easily handle an eclipse at the drag strip. Easily.
