1986 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Non-Sport 2.0

Summary:

Still cool looking after all these years

Faults:

5 Speed transmission was popping out of 5th gear at about 210,000.

The cylinder heads are sensitive to overheating and cracking. Keep them cool.

The EGR systems can carbonize the recirculating travel tubes.

The electricals can have issues if parked outside a lot in severe changing climates.

Not a lot of room in the driver and passenger compartment.

Needs after market headers production for the uneven exhaust port head design. No one makes them.

General Comments:

I can pull our 85 HP boat with the truck, and it does very well with over 250k miles.

The style is still very appealing, even after so many years.

Tires last a long time on the truck; be sure you buy an oversized tire update.

Very good gas mileage.

Repairs are very simple because of the allowable space around everything, especially the engine compartment.

Comfortable if you remove the ridiculous bench seat that comes from the factory. It actually seems to make you lean forward instead of reclining. Replaced with IROC buckets, which made a huge difference.

There is a large amount of information online to research for just about anything you would like to do to the truck.

1986 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Sport 2.0

Summary:

Mighty Max truly is mighty

Faults:

The fuel pump broke at 61,000 miles.

There is some substantial rust.

The gas mileage has decreased to about 15 miles per gallon.

The muffler fell off.

Maximum speed in 60 miles per hour, which is bad on the highway.

General Comments:

I bought this truck for $91.00 from my old boss. I am the third owner.

The truck has bad pickup, and handles like a military transport vehicle.

I put over-sized tires on it, and cut out the wheel wells. Despite the fact that it's 4x2 it can do some serious off-roading. I've driven it through two feet of water and through serious gumbo mud. If anyone knows where to get a suspension lift of body lift, please let me know.

A highly reliable truck, which lives up to it's name sake.
