2003 Mitsubishi Montero LTD 3.8 gasoline

Summary:

We love the car

Faults:

The alignment was off at delivery, and had to take it to dealer twice for adjustment. It's fine now.

There was a recall on a valve in the fuel tank. Dealer repaired no problems.

General Comments:

The truck rides very nicely on the highway, and has plenty of comfort and power for long rides/city driving.

It is amazing in the snow. 4x4 and the traction control work flawlessly.

The only negative is the poor gas mileage, but we knew that going into the purchase.

Dealer has outstanding customer service, and our sales rep was very professional.

I do all maintenance on my cars, since I can't stand paying someone else to do it, and having it potentially wrong. One think I don't like is that there are no service manuals available for the car. Mitsubishi was really smart in forcing consumers to the dealer or shops for service.

Overall, it's an awesome vehicle.

Update to this review: We now have 40k on the truck and no problems except a burned out 4x4 indicator light (one of the lights for the rear wheel indicator burned out). This was replaced under warranty. We still love this truck.

I am not looking forward to the 60k maintenance - plugs and timing belt are expensive to have done. Other than these, I do all the maintenance - oil, filters, trans fluid, transfer case and diff cases etc...

2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited 3.5 V6 Tiptronic

Summary:

Good deal - get one used to save the depreciation

Faults:

White spare tire cover is discolored, and must be repainted before warranty expires.

A/C bearing sounds like it might be going bad.

General Comments:

I LOVE this truck. I take it 4 wheeling, and I'm able to keep up with a OEM Jeep Wrangler. The only difference is I'm doing it with heated seats and leather comfort.

Traction control, all wheel drive, Tiptronic, leather and wood grain accents make this truck a total winner in the city as well. Also check out the huge sunroof - feels like a convertible. My friend who has the Acura MDX wishes he had mine - of course he paid a lot more!

I purchased my Montero new in 2003 and I absolutely love this SUV. I test drove other "pricier" SUV's and found the Montero to be as good, if not better, than all the rest. My only comment to the manufacturer would be to please equip this truck with tires that match the quality of the vehicle.

2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited, Anniversary Edition 6 Cylinder

Summary:

A high priced nightmare

Faults:

When we first got the vehicle it had a vibration at 40-65 MPH.

The vehicle still has a vibration that is present at 60-70 MPH.

The brakes are vibrating.

General Comments:

We purchased this vehicle because we loved our 2001 Montero Limited and the manufacturer was offering a very generous rebate and 0% APR. We figured it couldn't hurt to get a newer version of a vehicle that we had no problems out of and really enjoyed driving.

Get a front and rear end alignement, and get your tires balanced.
