2010 Mitsubishi Outlander ES 4 cylinder

Summary:

Most reliable and thrifty car owned, costing $20.5k, with options & tow package in Jan. 2011

Faults:

The car is virtually original except for:

a) Routine maintenance including belts, three batteries, cooling flushes and transmission flush, tires, a few recalls including wiper motor & a drive belt. The front lower control arm recall remains pending availability of parts.

b) Last year the dealer installed new rear brakes and rotors.

c) Note: all exhaust system is original.

General Comments:

Obviously at 10 years old and 45k the car is still low mileage. All preventive maintenance has been done by the dealer in order to preserve the dealer's lifetime powertrain warranty, with the requirement that preventive maintenance is performed and is always performed by the dealer. The car continues to run fine.

The air conditioning has never been serviced and remains fully functioning.

The car has been garaged for its lifetime and has been the most reliable and economical car we have ever owned, except for the Saab 900 bought used. I have owned: Plymouth Satellite, Oldsmobile Cutlass wagon, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Nova (Toyota twin), Ford Econoline van, Saab 900 (my favorite), GMC Safari and Subaru Crosstrek (another favorite), all purchased new except for Plymouth, Ford van, Saab 900 and GMC Safari.

The Outlander is MPG rated at 21 city and 27 highway, and I would say that realized gas mileage is at least its EPA ratings, if not slightly higher on both city and highway.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
