2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE 3.5

Summary:

Great Car

Faults:

Mass Air Flow Sensor.

Air Conditioning Buttons.

Oxygen Sensor.

General Comments:

My 2001 Pathfinder is over 140,000 miles and its reliability is way above average. That's not to say that I haven't had to replace the mass air flow sensor, or had a couple of Check Engine lights (once for 02 sensor twice for mystery causes). But when taken care of properly, the problems seem to go away, not linger like some of the issues of other posters.

The navigation system is not the best with its small buttons and weird controls, and the annoying need to buy a new map for every different region of the country. However, it was an impulse buy and it has come in handy. The AC is partly controlled by the touchscreen of the navigation system and partly by the black little AC buttons to the right of the screen. These small buttons have broken and I don't know how to replace them. Any suggestions. Right now, I can't control any function except Defrost.

2001 Nissan Pathfinder SE 3.5

Summary:

It's a good SUV

Faults:

I have the same problem with the CD player- ERR2 code. I had it repaired by a small shop that works on stereos and it worked for a couple of months and it broke again. Its been broken for the last 2 years and I gave up on having it repaired.

I also have the same problem with the check engine light and the dealer replaced two O2 sensors. Worked fine for the last year and a half and it went off again yesterday after refueling the SUV. It seems to happen every time it has been serviced by the dealer.

My current problem is that the coolant is leaking from the exhaust manifold. I am thinking of using an additive that claims that it is able to fix coolant leaks. Any thought on this?

General Comments:

It seems to be a good SUV with plenty of power. Handling is also good with plenty of room for 5 passengers. Overall, I'd been satisfied with this SUV.

Coolant leak from the manifold usually means something bad is about to happen. Just replace the manifold gasket. if you continue to drive on it, you'll blow it, and that could mean more problems.

Summary:

Runs good, but stupid SES light

Faults:

Service Engine Soon light has turned on after owning the car now only 5 days.

General Comments:

So what is the final word on dealing with the Service Engine Soon light? I took it to the Orem, UT Nissan dealership and waited 2 1/2 hours after being told they would be able to diagnose it in 45 minutes. The service guy told me that all 6 coils should be replaced and it would be $800 to do it. What advice do you have for me? Please email me if you have suggestions: onthemike23@yahoo.com

Thanks!!!

2001 Nissan Pathfinder XE 3.5

Summary:

Great On and Offroad.. and RELIABLE

Faults:

None!!!

General Comments:

The pathfinder is a very attractive vehicle in and out, probably the nicest looking SUV in its class.

Very responsive engine, 240 HP and 265 lbs of torque. Standard is 250HP, but less torque 240 I believe... but can only tow 3500lbs...while the automatic can tow 5000lbs.

Interior is very comfortable.. and the dash is laid out quite well... rear 60/40 split seats easy to lay down.

Headlights give good road coverage.

Very good handling... corners are nothing for this thing... Great off road.

Buy on if your in the market for this class of SUV.

2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE

Summary:

I love this SUV!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Overall a very low maintenance, dependable vehicle. I am car maintenance illiterate. All I do is change the oil and rotate the tires regularly and major mfg. checks.

Minor annoyance - seat belts don't retract all the way after about a years use. They were the same on my '97 Pathfinder.

Minor annoyance - I'm 5'2" and I have trouble reaching and closing the rear hatch. It is stiff and heavy. My friends Jeep is much easier to close.

When you need the power, it delivers immediately, unlike my '97 Pathfinder which merged & accelerated like a snail.
