1999 Oldsmobile 88 3.8L V6

Summary:

It's a shame they stopped making this car because I would buy another just like it

Faults:

Latch on middle armrest was broken at purchase.

Tab on air conditioning/heat vent left of steering wheel was broken at purchase.

Brakes needed to be replaced at 100,000.

Spark plug wire split at 122,000.

General Comments:

This car is incredibly reliable. At 129,000 miles (mostly highway), I don't think twice about heading off for a 1,500 mile trip in it. I commute 365 miles/week in it.

Seats are very comfortable and adjustable in all positions. Plenty of legroom front and back.

I loved my previous car, a Buick LeSabre, and wasn't sure I would like this car as much, but have grown to love the ride, gas mileage (24 city, 32 highway), and look of the vehicle.

It has had regular oil changes, tire rotations, transmission flushes, wash/wax, and has been garaged since purchase.

When others ride in the car, they cannot believe it has such high miles and is nearly seven years old.

I purchased a 1999 Olds 88 from my elderly aunt two years ago with 26,000 km (approx. 15,000 miles). I loved the car until I started having problems... most serious was a blown head gasket which I caught in time, but could have cost me the motor. This happened at 80,000 km (56,000 miles), and cost $1630 to have repaired at a GM dealers. I have also done all the brakes (65,000 km) and have a bad shudder periodically when the car is shifted into reverse. Time to get rid of it... too bad because I like the efficiency and the ride, but can't handle the repairs, which I never get with my Hondas. Very disappointing vehicle, which has been pampered all its live.

I have an '88 Olds with almost 150,000 miles and still running strong. I'm not afraid to drive it anywhere. All I've done is regular oil changes and preventative care. Hoping to add at least another 75,000 miles.

I had a 99 Olds 88 LSS. I knew the history of it since new. When the car was wrecked beyond repair, it had 179,000 miles, ran great, and I would have traveled cross country with no second thoughts about it.

I found a 95 Olds 88 with 70,000 miles with 2 previous owners, and the glove box full of maintenance receipts. I can only hope it runs as well as the previous Olds.
