1992 Oldsmobile Achieva SC 3.3 V6

Summary:

A steal for the price paid

Faults:

Over all this has been a great car. It has lost a step since I bought it, but the acceleration and power are still there. Very little engine work has been put into it for having it over 3 years. New water pump at 125,000, couple split hoses and new oil pressure sending unit cause place screwed up changing the oil. (I know I know, I usually do it myself even though the filters a pain to get at, but it was freaking middle of Feb. in Michigan) 10 yr old car and 150,000+ miles and only a few hundred bucks in engine work isn't too bad for me. Power window motor wore out around 115,000 and was replaced. Rust starting to show up in wheel wells, but been parked outside in Michigan year round so not too bad.

General Comments:

Over all it's been a really great car, good styling 2 door with spoiler. Premium sound is good. Suspension adjust is a great feature on the car, the handling is excellent, handles better then some newer performance cars I've driven. Been really happy with the car, really good for high school and college students. Still do 0-60 in 8 seconds and no problem with higher speeds. (still no problem hitting 110 plus at 150,000 if needed) Pretty comfortable unless your over 6'3 going on a long trip.

1992 Oldsmobile Achieva S Quad OHC

Summary:

Not worth your money

Faults:

The head gasket has blown 3 times since we purchased the car.

It overheats constantly, and all the anti-freeze disappears.

I can fill it up with anti -freeze, drive 10 miles and its all gone, seems to evaporate, I was told its due to compression in the head gasket.

None of the locks work.

Both windows fell off the track and don't roll up or down.

Had problems with the timing belt.

It shakes really bad when you get above 40 mph, put on new tires and it didn't help.

Interior and exterior lights don't work well.

Overheats when air condition is on, and the heater doesn't work well.

Problems with the thermostat.

Paint on the black bumpers always is peeling off to be white, which looks really bad.

General Comments:

I used to love this car, my parents got it brand new and I couldn't wait to turn 16 to drive it.

I soon found out that it was way too much trouble unless you can spend almost 500 bucks a month on it.

Was a great car until it hit 5 years old and after that it went downhill.

Faults:

My computer died at about 195600 miles.

General Comments:

This car is my life saver. I would recommend it. I got in an accident with it and everyone walked away. Someone who was at my friend's junkyard asked if anyone had died in the car because that's had bad it look, but everyone walked away with only bruises.

1992 Oldsmobile Achieva SC 3.3 V6

Summary:

This is a DCVING car!

Faults:

Window motor overheated. 192865 miles.

Mass Air Flow Censor blew: 191073 miles.

Motor Mounts Broke: They were broke when I got it.

Exhaust hanger rotted off: 192893.

General Comments:

This is a very rare car! 3.3 Liter V6 combined with a 3-speed automatic.

A lot of after market parts for engine. The 3.3 Liter V6 is a prototype to the 3.8 Liter V6 that is found in Camaros. Dual Turbo Mufflers makes this car sound like the beast it is. (Trust Me)

Car accelerates like a bullet.

Excellent handling, "hugs" the road and curves.

Electronic suspension control makes this car the best riding car in its time for the money.

Sporty looking.

Dash area very sporty.

The seats are very comfortable!

I updated the audio system in it as soon as I got it. It has a Pioneer CD Receiver (XM Ready), Planet Audio 100.2 Amplifier, Memphis Audio 10' Sub-woofer in a bandpass box, the highs were also replaced, Pioneer 6x9's and 4x6's to fit in the factory places.

Exterior is pretty much factory, except for the painted calipers, and the red neon under glow.

My future plans are dual red rally stripes, Hood Scoops, and Cragar SS chrome wheels.

A great first car for teens.

I used to work as a technician in a Buick dealership, and can attest to the fact that the 3.3's can easily go 250,000+ miles and well beyond. I saw it all the time.
