2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Summary:

I would not buy another, due to service from the manufacturer

Faults:

Ignition switch had to be replaced along with the sensor.

The dashboard vinyl is all bubbled and coming off.

The check engine soon light is on for no apparent reason.

And the worst problem of all is the windows; all 4 of them have broken window regulators, due to worn wire I am told.

General Comments:

The car runs good, but the interior is lacking in workmanship. Biggest issue is windows that won't stay up, and to get them fixed is very expensive.

2002 Oldsmobile Alero GL 3.4

Summary:

Buyer beware!!! This car is garbage!

Faults:

Both power windows have broken clips, and fell into door panel a week apart.

Paint pealing, regardless of monthly waxing.

Replaced brakes every 10,000 miles or so.

Every warning light on the dash is on, but no diagnostic codes are present.

Replaced fuel filter twice.

Had to replace ignition lock cylinder, which was nearly impossible. It finally had to be drilled out.

Trunk support bar snapped in two.

Replaced starter 3 times.

General Comments:

I have always been a fan of the S-10. When GM discontinued it for that garbage Colorado, I decided to buy a car this time. The salesman made a great speech and I was suckered. Little did I know this would be a $14,000 piece of junk. Needless to say, I am very disappointed, and I will be buying Ford from now on. This is the last GM I will ever buy.

Your leak into the driver compartment may be due to a drain tube being plugged with dirt, leaves etc. just in front of the window. There is a dam on the passenger's side, that has a small tube that drains the rain water out, and drops it in the passenger's wheel well.

When this tube gets plugged, the water overflows the dam into the heater air intake, and runs into the passenger side floor.

I finally took the tube off and made the hole bigger, which just empties onto the back end of the engine and front of transmission, problem solved. It's an old car. LOL.

2002 Oldsmobile Alero 3.6

Summary:

GM Alero = Ford Taurus / Lemons

Faults:

I bought this car with GREAT hopes, but THANK GOD for GAP coverage insurance otherwise she'd have been crushed 1 month after I bought her and I'd still be paying for this LEMON.

At first I was SO THRILLED, a little kick butt car with get up and go, but the strange crunching while turning out of parking lots.

Suddenly and shortly after purchase it would not start. Paid for two to dealership, it started, but was told PASSIVE SECURITY system had to be replaced, could not be removed. >$500 OUCH!!!

Then after the first road trip a complete front end replacement as well as fuel injectors and intake.

The dealership had it for a month, claiming to be waiting on some screws. Crunching noise upon turning still present.

WORSE!! The day after I received the car back, it ran away with me on the highway with my entire family in the vehicle. Only way to stop it was to pop it out of gear, engine continued to race out of control, steer to side of road and shut off key. All fuel lines were melted at one location on top of engine and line going to cruise control. No way to prove if this was dealership repairman's fault or what. Could have killed us.

Took it to a different dealership for front end crunching, another $3000 bill. Crunching gone, but now leaking antifreeze. Take back a week later, another bill and broken shifter. Why do repairmen break things and then deny it?

Then front driver window fell of track, motor still worked. Ordered NEW window assembly only to learn it does not come with clips to attach window. WASTED MONEY! Could not find clips anywhere. Then motor quit. Then passenger window did same thing. Now all the front two windows are broken and we hold them up with chop sticks from the chinese restaurant, and the back windows don't work at all either, but at least aren't off there tracks. NO FUN!!!

Not to mention the recall on the turning signal indicator that was "FIXED" during one of my many visits to the certified repair shops, but about 6 months later started ticking constantly and is so annoying you have to blast the stereo that doesn't work on hot days just to endure it. Tick tick tick tick tick... I'm NOT TURNING!!!

ALL of the idiot lights are not, the check oil light has been on drugs since its first oil change, and check engine... FOR WHAT? I don't think it even knows.

Now I am driving this REZ MOBILE... YEAH you heard that right, it's that bad really. The blower quit working for the heater, so we're wrapping up in blankets and using an ice scraper on the inside, the windows are broken due to stupid plastic clips, and to top it off...

That LOVELY passive security system that I replaced... decides that the car shouldn't start randomly whenever wherever we might stop, and we end up sitting and waiting for an hour or two until it changes it's mind. I'd leave the car on except that's scary too.

My GAP coverage paid over $14,000 in repairs for this vehicle before it expired at 100,000 miles. I've just ignored everything since and put another 50,000 miles on by saying a prayer every time we get in it. Because we don't have any other choice, I'm still paying the loan on this car and work isn't easy to find nowadays.

The next time I am able to buy a car it's going to be NEW, and I'll trade in every 2 years. I'd rather pay $800 a month for a RELIABLE WARM BEAUTY than go through what this POS has put me through.

Oldsmobiles were built by General Motors, the Ford Taurus is built by Ford Motors - What does one have to do with the other?

He is saying that the Oldsmobile Alero is just as much of a lemon as the Ford Taurus is.
