1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL 3.4L 24 valve DOHC

Summary:

A beautiful P.O.S.

Faults:

My electrical system was all screwed up and had to get that fixed at 95,000 miles.

The brake master cylinder was going out.

The interior items (Seat adjuster, center councle, and door panel) kept braking and falling off.

The car decided when it wanted to have power and when it wanted me to treat it like a grandma.

Needed a new transmission.

And then the engine blew out on me at 101,000 miles.

General Comments:

It is a beautiful car.

Very Fast.

Good handling.

Very comfortable and roomy (even the 2 door had plenty of room and comfort)

I loved everything about it except the problems. I have yet to drive another car like it.

But with all the problems and money I had to stick into it, I would not recommend it.

1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass SL 3.1 multi-port

Summary:

This car is quick, powerful, and fun to drive

Faults:

This car has had hardly any problems.

The brakes needed to be replaced at 48,000 miles.

Has a small oil leak around the valve covers (mainly around the bolts.)

General Comments:

This car is very quick, powerful, and overall very fun to drive. The interior is easy to use and extremely comfortable. The styling of it is simple, yet, very effective. It is a 1993 and people still comment on how well it looks. It handles very well and rides like a dream!

1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass 3.3

Summary:

Good looker, very poor quality

Faults:

Just about everything has gone wrong with this car. This car is the most problematic vehicle I have ever owned and is demonstrated through the poor workmanship that went in to this vehicle.

Here are some of the major problems:

Three woodgrain panels were replaced when the car was delivered due to bubbles and distortion in the material.

Seat material and rugs wore very prematurely.

Engine had multiple electrical problems.

Fuel pump which is in the gas tank failed.

Front wheel bearings which are pressed on to the axel and cannot be greased, wore out at 50,000 miles.

The overly expensive struts have to be changed by a professional because a spring compressor has to be used for the front coil springs.

Front disc brakes do not last more than 12,000 miles.

Many interior parts have literally fallen off.

As with all my vehicles, I take extremely good care of them, inside and out. This car just doesn't appreciate the care it gets, ha ha.

General Comments:

On the good side, The paint has held up remarkably well, still has showroom quality. I wax the car at least twice a year and the car is not garaged.

The engine, when running properly, is a good performer.

The car as a whole is a smart, handsome appearing car with nice lines and it gets a lot of compliments.

1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Convertible V-6

Summary:

Great fun, reliable and cheap

Faults:

I have been VERY pleased with the overall performance.

Small oil leak, fixed with an o-ring - $35.00.

Alternator/brakes/tires.

Hood remote - now broken - poor design!

General Comments:

GREAT CAR. VERY, VERY PLEASED - have spoken with other owners and ALL say to stay away from the larger 3.4 V-6 - major headaches, poor reliability.

If you are looking for a 2nd car that is fun, cheap front wheel, look for a '93-96, stay away from leather.

I paid $4500.00 and put 30000 miles on with just basic maintenance, hope to put on another 60,000.

1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S 3.1 L V6

Summary:

For $1500 it was a solid car

Faults:

The air conditioning system needs to be recharged. I was aware of the problem prior to purchasing the car. These cars use the older R-12 coolant which is really expensive these days.

The rack in the power steering system developed a bad seal and had to be replaced. Symptoms included a worn cover and massive power steering fluid leakage.

The engine runs very loud under any strain. It may be a hole in the exhaust system.

The dash tends to vibrate itself loose and requires a re-tightening of restraining screws.

Mass airflow sensor tends to clog up, and requires cleaning for decent engine performance.

General Comments:

Lots of room for passengers in the front and back.

Gas mileage is decent (19 city, 29 freeway) given the size of the car.

Turning radius leaves a lot to be desired. Parallel parking is quite a chore.

Despite the V6 engine, the car is a little under-powered under high acceleration conditions like freeway merging.

Yeah, I bought a 92 olds cutlass supreme for $1100 with 137000 miles on it and its solid! I bought this car in June of 2002 used from a dealer, and I have been pleased with the car so far.

The Cutlass Supreme is a completely different car from the Cutlass Ciera, with a different chassis.
