2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue GX 3.5

Summary:

Drives nice, but at what cost...?

Faults:

This car, despite its limited use (120000 km) has been have the same on-going problem for about 3 years now. The check engine light comes on, then I take it to the dealer and it's shut off. It stays off for maybe a month and then it's on again. It costs about 100$ to shut it off. It gets expensive.

General Comments:

I really like driving the car, it handles really well. It has a lot of power, too much for a front wheel drive car. When you drive it hard, you get torque steer.

Also, the wheels break traction too easily, even with the traction control on. Many times, trying to get out into a small opening in traffic, I have spun the tires inadvertently.

The interior is uni-colored, grey. I find it bland, and the materials are sub-par in my opinion.

- Just be glad it's got too much power rather than not enough!

Summary:

Not bad for a 2000!

Faults:

I bought my 2000 Intrigue from a older couple, and it only has 53,000 miles on it.

We'd had this car for about 1 month, when we were told to pump the gas hard when starting it to keep it from stalling.

Also, as we used it, we noticed the signals shorting out and the whole electrical system would lose all power for a sec or two as we were driving the highway. We took it to a garage and they said there was a short in the electrical system, and now it is fixed $50.00 later.. not bad, but as far as the stalling when you start the car, if you don't keep your foot all the way to the floor of the gas pedal, the mechanic seems to think it's the fuel pump.. again the part is about $160 plus labor.. not bad!!

I do now start to hear water gurgling as I start from a stopped position inside the hood of the car. Anyone have this, and what is it?

Summary:

Good

Faults:

My gas gage empty light comes on even after I had put a full tank of gas in it. Is is a common issue ?Has someone had this problem, and if yes, how do you fix it?

General Comments:

This car has been great. I love it, it handles good.

I've changed the head gasket, valve seals recently, and the spark plugs. So far that's the major things I've done.

2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue GL 305

Summary:

I have driven this car 110,000 miles, and I will continue to drive it until it dies a natural death

Faults:

The air conditioner condenser developed a leak and had to be replaced at approximately 145,000 miles.

A short time after that, I replaced the starter when it begin to be slow turning the engine.

At present the high pressure power steering hose has a leak and must be replaced soon. I will do the job so I can avoid the severe price charged by a dealer. To date I have done all the repair work myself.

General Comments:

My gas mileage is 24-25 for city driving and 27-29 for highway driving.

Yes, I have the quirky flickering lights. What is that?? And the thing is to be blunt, butt ugly.

But the car rides well, handles decent, and has adequate power.

I drive the thing like a dog and it just keeps going.

I add a quart of oil every 2800 to 3200 miles, and service the trans every 35,000 miles.

Besides, I paid only $3200.00 for a car with 64,000 miles on it, so my overall cost is incredibly low.

2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue LX 3.8

Summary:

We like the car

Faults:

We had the same issue as others with the lights flickering, and the car would just stop running going down the road.

After 5 days at the dealership, they had to call GM and get a tech on the phone. It turned out to be the ignition switch! This fixed the problem right up.

Right now we are having the overheating issue and have changed the thermostat twice with no improvement. We are thinking it is a plugged up radiator. Keep you posted.

General Comments:

Has been a good car overall over the past 6 years, with just little things here and there, as with all cars.
