1986 Oldsmobile Toronado Brougham 3.8L V6

Summary:

Loved It; GM.. Bring 'em back!

Faults:

Headliner started to sag.

Digital dash would blank out (fixed for $350)

Trunk motor blew, replaced with one from junk yard out of a Cadillac Eldorado

Rear bumper literally rusted until it fell off.

Power windows switches died, bought new from GM for $58.

One annoyance was everyone pronounced it Tornado!

General Comments:

It was very quick and handled well for its size. Freeway driving was not a problem at all. I had it up to 120mph (not kph) on the skyway and she was passing new BMW's and the like.

Always turned heads, nobody knew what it was; yet people always guessed it was an Oldsmobile though.

I loved this car. I wish I would have kept it. And yes I used this car to replace a Lexus and would buy this car over my Lexus any day if I had the choice.

I bought last week (December 2008) an Olds Toronado from the first owner in Switzerland, with 61.000 km on it, like brand new. Drives like a new car, 3.8L nice motor.

I am living in the Netherlands and drive now daily with the car, a compact car and it's driving economical, which buyers did not like in 1986! That's why it was selling bad. Good car GM! I like it.

1986 Oldsmobile Toronado Brougham 3.8L V6

Summary:

Awesome car, despite some glitches

Faults:

Like any 19 year old car, problems arise such as the timing chain, water pump, brakes all around, brake lines, gas line, sending unit, all of the electronical died (now rebuilt), tires, battery, alternator, tune up (couple times) plus I had it taken in for a factory recall issued Jan of 88.

General Comments:

I love this car, for a car of its size it handles and performs well.

The interior is extremely comfortable and the ride is very nice as well.
