1988 Oldsmobile Trofeo 3.8

Summary:

A very special car for that time in GM's history...

Faults:

Currently the radio and cassette are not functioning

General Comments:

Bought this car in June of 2019 from Madison, Wisconsin... has been in Wisconsin its whole life, was advertised as rust free in the Madison area, I saw the ad on CL and had a friend from Rockford, Illinois go view the car... he said the car was as advertised with no visible rust... AMAZING... was a very clean car and he bought the car for me after the seller and I came to an agreeable price.

I flew to Rockford a month later and drove the car home to Las Vegas, Nevada... approximately 1700 miles, through 6 states, which I believe were Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah then Nevada; the drive took about 24 hours and the car ran impeccably! The only adventure was I blew the front passenger tire coming down a grade about 80 miles east of Utah; luckily managed to pull off to the right shoulder and changed the tire; luck was with me because the next exit had a tire store and I bought 2 new front tires.

It is a very nice car for being 32 years old... Oldsmobile did a great job in the design of the initial TROFEO.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

The 1988 3.8 Buick V6 is a great engine.

The oiling system with the crankshaft-mounted gear rotor oil pump was much improved over the prior in the timing cover setup.

That, and the boost in horsepower from 150 to 165 was a welcome improvement - enjoy :)
