1989 Pontiac 6000 LE V.6 2.8Ltr

Summary:

A high performance bargain

Faults:

There has been no problems with my car since I have bought it.I own a 1989 Pontiac 6000 LE 4DR Sdn and I bought it with only 77,000 miles on it a couple of months ago in May for only $500.00 and my car runs great especially for the alignment is perfectly straight like when I let go of the steering wheel going 65 and press on the brake ,it doesn't pull to the right or left ,it keeps going straight and plus the engine sounds great . My engine is an V6 and the gauge says it goes up to 115 so thats cool. So I pretty much drive it everywhere .Now it has about 80,300 miles on it . So I am happy with my Pontiac .

General Comments:

This car runs like a deer! Smooth and straight.

- Left turn signal doesn't work properly.

- Driver side front speaker wiring is. loose (speaker goes out sometimes).

- Front hood latch is broken.

- Has a few rust spots to touch up.

General Comments:

I bought this car from my girlfriend's dad and I love it. He had it repainted and totally re-did the front end. I haven't had to do anything to this car except put gas in it and do the oil changes. Like most of the other reviews on the Pontiac 6000 I give this one a big thumbs up.

I'm sorry you paid 900 dollars for it, but they are great cars.

1989 Pontiac 6000 SE

Summary:

Strong, dependable, cheap, and fast!

Faults:

Left turn signal needs to be manually shut off.

Replaced muffler and rear shocks.

Replaced left turn signal bulb.

Power lock doesn't open passenger door.

Power window problems on passenger side.

General Comments:

I LOVE this car! This is my first car and I find it handles great and is remarkably cheap on gas (one tank will go for 7 hours on the highway at 120/km hr!) Pretty good for a car that seats six!

It starts like a charm (and I live in Northern Canada) and has never let me down. I have put 20,000 kms on it in 8 months and it keeps on going. It's great on the highway or in the city. I too blow away the rest of the cars at the stoplight! It has lots of power and just wants to run.

I plan to keep up the oil changes, install a good stereo and keep her running. As Neil Young said, "Long may you run"

It's rare to see an SE 6000 at all. You live in northern Canada, and it sounds like the car is well suited for the driving you do. I wonder what an AWD SE would be like?

1989 Pontiac 6000 LE 2.5L

Summary:

Cheap ride to the hills

Faults:

Headlight has a hole in it from being towed by a motor home. From the dealer it is $500, cheapest one found is $120. The front seat is a full bench seat, the console broke off, but I fixed it, and the springs on the drivers side of the seat are shot. Shocks are starting to really get soft.

General Comments:

It's perfect for cargo space, I can fit two snowboards inside on a slant beside my subs. It will seat six so I can haul a bunch to the hills. It handles well on the ice. Over half of the km on it are from being towed from calgary to Arizona so it's as good as new. My friends mom owns one, but its loaded to the nuts, mines is as plain as they come.

1989 Pontiac 6000 LE 2.8 FI

Summary:

Night mare, literally!

Faults:

Many, many things went wrong! : (

Automatic transmission went bad, would not shift from second gear, and eventually would not shift into first or reverse. Had to tow it to the shop. Spent around 3 weeks waiting for another transmission, which had a price of around 400 $ for a student. It was a used Buick gearbox.

Of course Alternator.

Of course fuel pump.

Steering wheel was loose, took a big effort to fix.

Mechanically, engine did not have problems, but accessories completely failed. The car had me sitting on the side of the road nearly a dozen times. Every week something was going wrong with it.

Ignition switch locked up with the engine running. Turn signal lights did not work, relay had to be replaced, bulb sockets rewired.

Radio only picked up 3 radio stations.

Rear window leacked water inside.

Temperature senson did not work, temperature gage became useless.

General Comments:

Even though I loved it, since it was my first car, it brought way too many problems. Perhaps previous owner did not take care of it.
