2001 Pontiac Aztek GT 3.4L fuel injected

Summary:

Do not purchase GM products, they do not stand behind them

Faults:

51,000 km. Tires replaced.

52,000 km. Reprogram key remote.

56,000 km. A/C condensor failed replaced.

56,800 km. A/C hose leakage.

61,000 km. makes occasional grinding noise when starting vehicle (similiar to that of one holding the key in the start position once the vehicle has ignited). No immediate fix.

63,000 km. Brakes grinding, graphite applied.

66,000 kms. Tailgate failed to open.

69,700 kms. Engine light - no apparent reason.

70,000 kms. Tires replaced.

85,000 kms. Transmission blew up - $3000 repair.

General Comments:

This vehicle has been a problem since day one.

The transmission blowing up at 85,000 km. Was the straw that broke the pocket book. $3000 repair bill for something that simply should not be required for many 100,000 km.

Mechanic advised that GM is fully aware of their poor quality parts in these vehicles, and simply shrugs their shoulders because the transmission conveniently faults just after the warranty expires. GM doesn't believe in their product because you have to pay $2200 Cdn. for an extended warranty.

Once I started reading the many posting regarding this vehicle (unfortunately there wasn't this many reviews when I bought it), it is clear that GM has built a very faulty vehicle and does nothing to service their customers who have spent thousands to purchase their vehicles.

No wonder consumers don't purchase domestic and go foreign - much more reliable. Think twice before you buy this car.

I noticed you mentioned having the tires replaced at 50,000 then again at 70,000 which leads me to wonder, just how hard are you driving your Aztek? Tires are a wear item, and if you're wearing them out that fast, then I suspect your transmission didn't stand a chance. Neutral drop, anyone?

2001 Pontiac Aztek GT AWD 3.4 Liter 3.4 SFI V6

Summary:

This car is as close to a lemon as I ever hope to get

Faults:

The rear hatch release has never worked properly. I have to press the release button on my key while lifting the hatch. The dealer has never even considered this a problem.

I replaced the intake manifold at 47,000 miles.

The wheel bearings and brakes were replaced at 54,000 miles.

The a/c condenser was replaced at 55,000 miles.

One of the computer modules was replaced at 56,000 miles. It was improperly programmed and had to be taken back in to correct.

Now my car at 56,500 miles is running hot. It could either be the head gasket as it is also sucking antifreeze or the temperature gage.

I can no longer afford this relatively new car.

General Comments:

I wonder if there should have been some recalls on this vehicle. Three of us at work have this same year car and all three of us have experienced the same problems. This is a very disappointing car.

2001 Pontiac Aztek

Summary:

Outstanding vehicle for families on the go

Faults:

AC went out in July 2004, understand this is a common occurrence on Azteks. Does wear out tires and brakes but expected in a mountain region area extreme amount of driving I do.

General Comments:

Very spacious interior, great for people with long legs, even in the backseat. Incredible expansion space for carrying large cargo. Great for tailgating at ball games. Comfortable smooth ride on both off road and highway travel. Easy to care for interior even on occasional spills, the rugged seat covers are easy to clean. Very kid friendly vehicle. Gas mileage is OK, would have expected it to be better in the city, but does make up for that on long highway based road trips. Everyone who rides in it is surprised and has been very pleased. Like the fact it is yellow and I can stop it in any parking lot. I would definitely buy another one.

2001 Pontiac Aztek GT Sport

Summary:

Transmission died at 40,600 miles

Faults:

The most serious problems was the Aztek won't move forward or in reverse at only 40,000 miles. It was towed to a GM dealer who said there are gears just laying in the transmission pan. This car has had the oil changed every 3 to 4 thousand miles.

The tires had to be replaced twice so far.

The lumbar support knob has never stayed on even though the GM dealer has replaced it 4 times while it was under warranty.

The rear hatch has never opened with only one click of the inside switch or the remote keyless button this also was taken to the Gm dealer 4 times while under warranty.

General Comments:

I really like the look of the Aztek and love the color yellow its easy to find in any parking lot. I also like all the gadgets like the heads up display, the dual climate controls, the radio controls on the steering wheel, and the air compressor in the back. But I'll never buy another Pontiac or any GM car. I expect the transmission to last more than 40,000 miles and I will get a better warranty with the next car I buy.

The exact same thing has happened to me. I'm at 101,000 kms. GM dealer told me 4500.00 for a new trans, plus it's AWD, so another 3000.00-4000.00 to clean up the rear final drive. Gear teeth are all over the place. Terrible. I'll never get another one.
