1999 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI 3.8 supercharged

Summary:

I wish they still made Bonnevilles; I would buy a new one

Faults:

Replaced struts, tires, head gasket. AC blower. Driver's door speaker cover fell - had to glue it in. Antenna replaced. Compass needs calibration.

Replaced tail light bulbs. Head light bulbs or signals never went out.

General Comments:

No leaks! Bought it new in 1999, I do not think I will ever sell it.

Original: Engine, transmission, water pump, gas pump, muffler, radiator, paint, head light bulbs! And starter! Everything works! Seats are in great shape.

No rust!

Very comfortable, great pick and go, even for being 11+ years old and 100,000+ miles.

SSEI comes with the Heavy Duty transmission, that could explain why I had no problems. I maintain the car very well since I bought it new.

Parts are very cheap.

1999 Pontiac Bonneville GS 3.8 Liter

Summary:

If they still made this car, I'd still be buying it

Faults:

Very little has gone wrong with the car. I've never had it in the shop for a major repair.

No engine or other drive train problems.

Have replaced brake pads & rotors on a routine basis, with no warping.

Grille finally lost the Pontiac emblem & then cracked at one support point at about 166,000 miles.

Vacuum leak (small) behind heater panel, so slight I've never bothered to fix it.

I find the air conditioning to be inadequate (I live in Phoenix, AZ).

On my third windshield - car seems unusually sensitive to small rocks!

I previously had a 1992 Bonneville - an essentially identical car - and had to replace the transmission at 165,000 miles, so I'm holding my breath.

General Comments:

This is my second Bonneville with the 3.8-liter engine -- The first one lasted me until 174,000 miles and then I gave it to my college-bound daughter, and it lasted until 236,000 miles even with her no-maintenance policy!

Neither of the two cars has burned a drop of oil.

This car is made for long-distance cruising at high rates of speed - doesn't even notice you're doing 90mph - and I feel very secure doing it.

Very comfortable to drive - I've spent long days behind the wheel.

It seats six real people and gets upwards of 22mpg city and 29-30 highway; what's not to like?

1999 Pontiac Bonneville SE 3.8L V6

Summary:

I literally cried when they stopped making them!

Faults:

The car has been extremely low maintenance.

At around 50k miles it blew a gasket. It was still under warranty, so I have no idea what it cost.

At around 123k miles the upper manifold went, which I was told was normal for this car at that point because they are made of plastic, and if someone lets their car warm up all the time then it warps/melts the plastic over time. That cost me around $1000.

I think I've had the brakes done at some point in time as well, but I don't remember when. I think it probably cost me around $300.

General Comments:

This is the third Bonneville I have owned, and I have loved all three.

They fit 5 adults VERY comfortably, and with the bench seat up front, I can legally seat 6.

The car has been extremely low maintenance.

The car is incredibly comfortable, has a great sound system, lots of bells and whistles.

I purchased my first Bonneville (1989) after owning a 1984 Lincoln Continental. I found it to be more roomy, reliable, and being that it is front wheel drive instead of rear wheel drive, PHENOMENALLY better in all weather conditions than the Lincoln. I fell in love with our first snow storm!

1999 Pontiac Bonneville SLE 3.8

Summary:

This car is Reliable and low maintenance, full of power, comfortable and I love it

Faults:

Mass Air Flow Sensor, starting to show a few minor rust spots. Needs frequent Fuel Injector Cleaner, every time the oil changes. Interior dash light fuses keep shorting out.

General Comments:

I love this car. I was in a pretty bad accident with it, rear-ended and thrown into the car in front of me, and the car accumulated $6000.00 worth of damage both front end and rear end, and she still runs like a champ. I have had few problems with the car outside of normal wear and tear and I will buy another if I need too. This car is very dependable, I travel heavy for work and I know this car will take care of myself and my family.
