1987 Pontiac Firefly Turbo 1.0 litre turbo
Summary:
My Turbo Firefly has been an excellent car for the 6 months I've owned it
Faults:
When I bought the car, the turbo charger and the ball-joints were shot. Turbo charger cost me $50 dollars to replace. The ball joints were only $300 to replace.
I could hear the engine through the speaker system so I replaced the stereo.
General Comments:
The car has really good mileage and performance.
The 1 liter engine is abused on a regular basis and has never failed.
My firefly is able to out accelerate almost any four cylinder car.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I currently own 3 Pontiac turbo firefly`s, all with different amounts of mileage AND abuse. Each car runs a little different than the other, but that is what sets them apart-besides color, graphics, wheels, etc.I laughed at the 1.0 3cyl turbo when I first saw one, but after driving-maybe abusing it-i realized what they could do!!!52 mpg AND able to pull the headlights out of a few civics.

I have a 1987 turbo firefly and It is very nice in the summer. I have a sun roof and a good stereo, what more does a guy need.

I owned a Firefly Turbo new from 1987 to 1995, when the engine blew. But what a great fun little car! (I much prefer it to my '96 Mustang GT.) The minuscule '08 Smart's 1 liter motor has the same 70 hp as the Firefly but takes 13 sec. to crawl to 60 mph. The Firefly hit that in 9.5 sec., enough to hang even with family sedan V-8s of that era. The only negatives were the four slippery Bridgestones that gave poor traction in the rain, and less in the snow.

I have owned (From New) a 1989 Turbo Sprint and a 1991 Turbo Firely. Sadly, Turbo Fly has gone to that big junk yard in the sky this July, 2004.
I hate to get misty, but, I am going to miss those little screamers. They helped me embarrass a lot of much more expensive "performance" cars. I even took the 1989 Turbo Sprint to redline in 5th gear pursuing a Porsche 911. That worked out to a top speed of 130 MPH!! Dangerous, yes, but wow! Great little cars, and I wish they still made them, because I would two this time and store one for summer only driving. They were the definition of a fun car.
