2008 Pontiac G5 Pursuit XE 2.2 Ecotec

Summary:

Good choice

Faults:

Check engine light at 660 KM; wire adjustment.

Nothing else wrong since.

General Comments:

The car handles great, but I don't like the second gear.

Very good car for the price.

I tried almost all manufacturer's cars before purchasing, and GM offered the most for the price. I don't know why this car is so often bashed in car reviews in general. As a Aircraft Technician I like to look how a car has been built, and GM seems to getting better than before.

The worst cars I have tested are KIA Spectra and Toyota Corolla. Even the Hyundai Elantra is better built than a Toyota. I could not afford an extra $90 or $120 per month for a Japanese car without options... it is not worth it.

Hyundai and GM offer a bit more than the others for a right price. Most of Japanese cars in that category except Mazda are underpowered. Mazda are expensive but worth it. If I would have had more money, it would have been my first choice.

A Ford Focus is too expensive also, and Dodge are badly assembled.

The Pontiac G5 or Chevy Cobalt are good choice and the warranty is also good. The dealer is nice too; very good service.

So, has your suspension needed to be re-built? I've read posts that say the G-5's front suspension is a mess and the dealer refuses to acknowledge any fault. The Cobalt is similar in design.

I did not get any problems with my suspension yet, but one of my friends who has a Cobalt had that problem, the dealer acknowledged the problem and changed everything. The dealer told him it was a common problem on that car. Since I bought my car at the same dealer, I don't think I would get any problems to have it rebuilt if it's broke down. Depends who is your dealer... Bigger your dealer is, the less you get problems with any brands...

Summary:

Wow. Gas saver. Good looks. 5 speed. Couldn't get any better than this..

Faults:

Nothing, but I will comment if something does go wrong. But what is with the drivers seat, it sits up high. LOL.

General Comments:

Well, I just purchased this Pontiac G5, BRAND NEW.. WOW.. First new car I ever got.

I got the regular Pontiac G5, 2 dr coupe with the manual transmission, and it is a blast to drive.

It averages 40 mpg.. that is amazing the way gas is going, and I make a lot of trips ranging in 600 or more miles, so this is a good car.

I would recommend this car to anybody who wants a nice, sporty, reliable, good mileage car, because it really is a good car.

Congrats on the car. Before I bought a new car in 2007 I test drove a lot of cars. I bought a Mustang, but I was very impressed with the G-5. It was solid, smooth, reasonably fast and well built. My dog currently has an 8-year-old Pontiac Grand Am that has been one of the most reliable cars our family has ever had.

I love Pontiacs, and I will always own one.. I love the Mustangs, but I would have to choose a Pontiac over a Mustang... I also own an 02 Bonneville SLE and I love it to death.. Good luck on the Mustang, keep me updated on it, I would like to know if they have problems..

To 11:58: My Mustang has been great as far as reliability. As a Pontiac owner also, I will admit that the Mustang is nowhere NEAR as comfortable or solid-feeling as my dog's flawless 2001 Grand Am SE Quad 4 (I have a VERY spoiled dog!!).

I LOVE Pontiacs too, and am very sad to see them go. My family has a 1955 Pontiac Chieftan sedan that my late father owned. It is STILL a very solid car. It has been restored and has appeared in one movie as a "period" vehicle (though so briefly that if you BLINK you miss it!!). The engine and transmission are the original, and all the numbers match. The Bonneville's are some of the best larger cars ever made. The 2002 SLE is a VERY sporty and fast large car that is like riding on a cloud, yet it handles great. I bet you do enjoy yours.
